Discover Lind: Panoramic Views, Hiking Trails and History
Accommodation in Lind
In Lind, hiking views across the western Ahr Hills meet a network of signposted trails and distinctive historic buildings. The views extend to the Volcanic Eifel, the Siebengebirge hills and as far as Hohe Acht. Lind Höhe is another landmark: this 488-metre-high panoramic plateau is located in Lind and provides a clearly identifiable point of reference in the landscape.
Hiking trails, from circular walks to long-distance hikes
There are four signposted circular trails totalling 35 kilometres, as well as approximately 20 marked hiking routes to choose from. The Lind Panorama Trail offers a concrete guide for planning your day: it is 6.5 kilometres long, takes about two hours and is rated easy. Both the ascent and descent are 171 metres. If you are comparing distances, the 16-kilometre circular route of the Dreidörfer nature experience trails around Lind is a considerably longer option. No duration or difficulty rating is given here for this route, so do not plan it using the Panorama Trail’s figures.
The Panorama Trail is marked with a linden tree symbol and provides information about the weather. As well as the trail length, the signage therefore offers another point of reference when choosing a route. As hiking trail networks can change, follow the current signs on site.
Comparing the AhrSteig and Panorama Trail
The AhrSteig is a long-distance hiking trail that runs in seven stages from the source of the Ahr near Blankenheim to the river’s mouth near Sinzig. It follows natural trails through valleys, uplands, vineyards and forests in the Ahr region. One section of the AhrSteig runs along the Panorama Trail; Lind Höhe is also a waypoint on the fourth stage. This stage is marked in both directions with the blue AhrSteig logo.
The character of the routes can be understood by comparing their different details: the Panorama Trail is described as 6.5 kilometres and about two hours, while the Dreidörfer nature experience trails circular route covers 16 kilometres. The AhrSteig, meanwhile, connects its seven stages across the Ahr region. When putting together your hikes, you can first decide whether a single circular walk, a longer loop or the long-distance trail’s staged route is right for you. For trail markers, it is a good idea to check the current signs on site.
Church, chapel and medieval traces
St. Notburgis brings together several periods in one building: the tower has a probably medieval core and a Baroque cupola, while the neo-Gothic nave was built in 1906. The church grounds also contain two 18th-century grave crosses and a fragment of a cross. Those interested in the village’s history will find another point of reference in time in Lind’s first recorded mention: it appears in the Prüm Urbar, which is dated to 893.
The Nativity Chapel is considered a highlight directly on the hiking trail. In Lind-Obliers, the Wensburg ruins are part of a protected historic site. The medieval remains include a ring wall and a zwinger wall; the site also contains a keep with a tented roof. The church, chapel and ruins offer different historical impressions, without any one building having to represent the entire history of the village.
Which accommodation is right for your stay?
When looking for accommodation in Lind, you can start with the experiences you have planned: if the signposted trails are your main focus, trail length and route type are useful criteria for planning. If you would like to combine hiking with historic sights, you can also take St. Notburgis, the Nativity Chapel and the Wensburg ruins into account when planning your days.
