Juniper heathland and nature
The Niederadenau juniper heathland is listed as a natural monument in Rhineland-Palatinate. Alongside the buildings and cycling routes, it is Niederadenau’s natural highlight.
Architectural history in different forms
Niederadenau’s historic buildings represent different styles and date from several centuries. The Catholic Church of St. Margaret at Adenauer Straße 29 is a rubble-stone hall church dating from 1872. Near Adenauer Straße 17 stands a wayside cross of the niche type from 1724. The contrast thus ranges from a 19th-century church to a wayside cross from the early 18th century; the term “niche type” also specifies a particular architectural form. Anyone interested in historic building styles can compare these two examples by their form and date.
Two half-timbered buildings add to the picture. At Brückenstraße 1 stands a plastered half-timbered house with a bread oven, probably dating from the 18th century. At Mittelstraße 2 stands a half-timbered linear farmstead built using post-and-beam construction, with a bread oven and blacksmith’s shop, dating from the 18th or 19th century. The date of the house on Brückenstraße is explicitly given as probable; the farmstead’s date is less precise. Both houses share a bread oven as a specific feature, while the blacksmith’s shop sets the farmstead on Mittelstraße apart. Anyone who enjoys exploring architectural history through individual details can consider the construction methods, ovens and blacksmith’s shop, as well as the different dates.
Cycling: two route profiles
The day tour along the Ahr Cycle Route and the Eifel Volcano Cycle Route reaches Niederadenau after about 2 km on a mostly straight, flat cycle path. In Niederadenau, it turns left onto Brückenstraße, goes briefly uphill and then briefly downhill again, and continues towards Dümpelfeld. The “Adenau Explorer Tour – In the Footsteps of the Mills” cycling route passes through Niederadenau and Dümpelfeld along the edge of the forest. The choice of route offers a clear contrast: the day tour is mostly straight and flat, with short changes in elevation, while the Explorer Tour follows a stretch along the forest edge through both villages.
The village community centre
The Niederadenau village community centre is located between the sports field and playground. It has a fully equipped kitchenette, crockery, a covered extension and shelter, as well as toilets; reservation enquiries are welcome. If you would like to include the centre in your plans, you can submit a reservation enquiry.
