Bad Sobernheim showcases history, landscapes and activity in a variety of ways: the open-air museum focuses on homes and workplaces from different periods, while paths along the Nahe and through the forest invite active exploration. There is also a compact town centre, a classical music festival and wine experiences near Steinhardt. When planning your trip, you can explore the town according to your interests: culture, nature trails, the town centre or food and drink.

History and nature at the open-air museum

The Rhineland-Palatinate Open-Air Museum is located in the Nachtigallental valley in Bad Sobernheim. It features authentically furnished living and working areas, workshops and historic shops from different eras. Fields, gardens, a vineyard and orchards with old cultivated and ornamental plants complement the historic settings. The exhibits therefore explore not only how people lived and worked, but also traditional crafts and the shaping of the cultural landscape.

The Actionbound treasure hunt “The Missing Diary” takes visitors around the museum grounds and tells the story of a boy’s life in the 19th century. The WaldKulturWeg takes a different approach: interactive stations explore how people and nature have shaped one another over the centuries. Hands-on stations and interactive exhibition areas can be found throughout the open-air museum. Each activity offers a different approach: a story about one person’s life, the relationship between people and nature, and learning by trying things out yourself.

Exploring the Nahe and the forest

The Bad Sobernheim barefoot path is a 3.5-kilometre nature trail that loops along the Nahe. Its surface changes between sand, stones, grass, bark mulch and clay; it also features a suspension bridge and a river crossing with the aid of a rope. The Heilweg trail focuses on different themes: this 4.5-kilometre route has information boards about Felke’s elements and prompts for forest bathing.

The Felke Healing and Activity Forest is located in Bad Sobernheim’s municipal forest, within the Am Maasberg recreational area. Its forest-bathing concept is designed to incorporate Felke’s elements of water, light, air and clay bathing. The Activity Forest route is more than 5.2 kilometres long and includes stations for climbing, balancing, crawling and jumping. The Maasberg recreational area also includes old trees and the Hubertuslust barbecue area, which is intended for relaxation and active fitness. This makes it easy to choose a trail to suit your interests: changing surfaces and a river crossing on the barefoot path, Felke’s elements and forest bathing on the Heilweg, and activity stations along the Activity Forest route.

There is more to do than explore these trails. Activities include hiking and cycling, as well as golf, disc golf and mini golf. There is also an outdoor adventure pool, flights from the Domberg and a sauna facility. These offer further options for different kinds of day out.
