Hatzenport combines scenic trails with wine, diverse plant life and culture. The town appeals to a range of interests: you can focus on hiking routes and landscapes, explore the plants in the herb garden, or plan wine tastings and cultural activities. This lets you shape your stay around the experiences that matter most to you.

Trails, views and a choice of routes

The WeinWetterWeg is part of the Mosel.Erlebnis.Route. Its main loop passes through Hatzenport, crosses the Rabenlay to Löf and continues southeast towards Bischofstein Castle and Lasserg. From the Rabenlay, you can look out over Hatzenport, the steep vineyards and the Moselle Valley. There is a shelter, a barbecue area and reclining benches at the viewpoint. Check local conditions before your visit.

The Traumpfad Hatzenporter Laysteig circular trail starts at Hatzenport railway station. A section of the Moselsteig also runs through Hatzenport, following the same route as the Traumpfad and the WeinWetterWeg. This gives you several points of reference when choosing a tour: the start at the railway station, the main loop of the WeinWetterWeg and the shared section of the three routes.

Herb garden and local culture

There is a herb garden by the church in Hatzenport. Medicinal herbs and Mediterranean culinary plants grow there alongside flowering shrubs, heritage roses and wild roses. It also features species that grow wild in the vineyards: dittany, blue lettuce and stemless asphodel. The garden brings together a variety of plants in one place.

Sommersonnenwende Hatzenport is a cultural series organized by the Hatzenport Tourism and Heritage Association. It takes place every year in June and follows the motto “Art & Culture, Cuisine & Cellar.” The local theatre group also draws on a long-standing tradition: theatre was already performed in Hatzenport around 1899/1900, and the group now seeks to keep this custom alive. Hatzenport winemakers offer wine tastings.

More culture in the wider destination of Mayen-Koblenz

The wider destination of Mayen-Koblenz offers a distinctive perspective on cultural history. Sayn Foundry is an anchor point on the European Route of Industrial Heritage and the only monument in Rhineland-Palatinate to receive this distinction. Following restoration, modern exhibitions and multimedia displays invite visitors to explore; guided tours and creative workshops are also available. Sayn Abbey offers a different historical focus: it was founded around 1200, and its abbey church was consecrated in 1202. The abbey’s exterior paintings, dating from around 1255, are considered the best-preserved of the High Middle Ages in Germany.

When looking for accommodation, you can start with your travel plans: trails and views make for a different focus than a stay centered mainly on wine tastings or the cultural series in June. If a specific date matters, check the event dates for the June in question. Contact the winemakers directly to arrange current wine-tasting offers.
