Hochscheid offers hikers several distinct landscape features: eroded basalt basins and rock faces at Hochscheider Seifen, panoramic views from the heights, and stream valleys along various routes. These differences give your choice of route a clear direction. Would you like to experience a striking natural landmark, include a viewpoint, or combine high ground and valley sections in one hike? The trails lead to different highlights around Hochscheid.

Hiking between Seifen, heights, and valleys

The Wäller Tour Bärenkopp passes by Hochscheider Seifen. Eroded basalt basins and rock faces lie alongside the trail and define this natural landmark. At the same time, sections of the route follow the WesterwaldSteig, the Klosterweg, and the Wiedweg. The regional tourism information describes it as a German Hiking Association-certified “Quality Trail Wanderbares Deutschland” with the additional designation “Dream Tour.” If you would like to base your choice on distinctive natural formations and named trails, the Bärenkopp Tour offers a specific combination.

The W2 Waldbreitbach hike also passes through Hochscheider Seifen. It is of moderate difficulty, 15.5 kilometers long, and takes about 4.9 hours. On this W2 route, the trail descends through the Seifen; a spur trail of about 250 meters leads to the “Weißes Kreuz” viewpoint. When planning together, both the approximate walking time and the detour to this viewpoint may be worth considering.

Both routes run along Hochscheider Seifen: the Wäller Tour passes by it, while the W2 goes through it. When choosing, the W2’s difficulty level, length, approximate walking time, and spur trail to Weißes Kreuz are the main considerations; the Bärenkopp combines the natural landmark with its certification and sections of three trails. This lets you weigh whether the time frame and viewpoint or the named trail sections should be the deciding factor.

The B1 circular hiking trail combines heights and valleys: it crosses the heights of Hochscheid and offers magnificent panoramic views, while also passing through the picturesque stream valleys of Fockenbach and Dasbach. If you are looking for these kinds of landscape changes in a circular hike, the views from the heights and the valley sections offer a clear guide. The Great Nativity Trail in the Wied Valley, around the Christmas village of Waldbreitbach, also crosses the heights of Hochscheid and Verscheid. It adds another named route across the heights to the selection.
