In Oberraden, hiking trails, scenic landscapes and traces of the area’s former water supply come together. Two moderate trails offer different lengths, and the “Dorfblick” panoramic swing opens up a view over the village. The traditional Kirmes (village fair) is another local experience. As you plan your trip, consider whether you want to focus mainly on exploring the trails and village history or also include cultural and leisure attractions in the wider destination of Neuwied.

Hiking trails of different lengths

Both routes, O1 and O2, are rated moderate, but they differ in length: O1 covers 6.5 kilometres, while O2 covers 4.1 kilometres. This makes O2 2.4 kilometres shorter. The O2 loop starts in Oberraden at the car park opposite Haus Waldblick. Along the way, views stretch into the distance, while meadows, fields and woodland shape the landscape. Sturdy footwear is all you need for O2, and there are several places along the route to stop for refreshments. O2 also takes you to Straßenhaus, where you can include the arboretum in your hike.

For O1, it is advisable to check the route planner before setting out, as temporary diversions may be in place. O2 may also be temporarily changed or closed. So check the latest route information before your hike.

The Aubach, village views and history

The 15.2-kilometre-long Aubach runs alongside Oberraden. The “Bur” Aubach spring was once a well facility and served as a water supply for Oberraden. Above the Jagdhaus, the “Dorfblick” panoramic swing offers a view over the village. Alongside the scenery on a hike, visitors can therefore explore a specific watercourse, a chapter in the history of the former water supply and views of the village itself.

Oberraden’s traditional Kirmes draws visitors to the fairground at the entrance to the village. If the festival fits your travel plans, check the dates for your travel period.

Getting around and activities for families

An interactive tour of Oberraden and Niederraden starts at a panoramic information board, from where both settlements are visible. A school garden is also one of the tour stops. Oberraden and Niederraden also have several playgrounds and football areas. These facilities may be useful when planning a day out with the family; check what is currently available before your visit.

Oberraden can be reached via the BAB 3, B 256 and L 265. You can take these access roads into account when planning your journey and compare them with the trails you would like to explore during your stay.

More to discover in the wider destination of Neuwied

Culture and history are also at the heart of the wider destination of Neuwied. The Roentgen-Museum Neuwied has a collection of Roentgen furniture and Kinzing clocks that is unique in the world. The Feldkirche in Neuwied-Feldkirchen is more than 800 years old; the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Limes runs through the entire city of Neuwied, with watchtowers and forts along the way.

Another focus for outdoor activities is the Deichstadtweg in Neuwied: a cycle route more than 17 kilometres long, with 24 stops along the banks of the Rhine. At Zoo Neuwied, SWeNis Kinderland has a large playground and a petting enclosure. These attractions are part of the wider destination of Neuwied and offer a distinct thematic focus alongside Oberraden’s hiking trails and village history.
