Accommodation in Temmels
Temmels lies on the Upper Moselle in an area shaped by winegrowing and agriculture. Two settlement centres give the village its distinctive layout: the lower village is right on the Moselle, while the upper village lies above the railway line. The Moselle Cycle Route and the Baroque Georgshof, which is particularly significant for its architectural and cultural history, are also part of the picture. River scenery, cycling and local history come together here—three starting points to consider when choosing Temmels as a destination and possible base.
Cycling along the Moselle
Temmels can be reached by bicycle via the Moselle Cycle Route from Trier towards Perl and Luxembourg. The route through the village connects with the Upper Moselle in the direction of the Middle Moselle, the Sauer and the Saar. The Nittel–Trier stage of the Moselle Cycle Route also passes through Temmels. This places the village both on the route of this particular stage and within the wider network of cycling connections.
One place to stop along the way is Obermoselperle, next to the sports field on the Moselle Cycle Route. Regional wines and a varied selection of dishes are served there. Children can play at the adjoining sports field. Cycling, regional produce and a place to play thus come together here.
Getting here and finding your way around
By car, you can reach Temmels from Trier, Metz and Luxembourg via federal highway B 419. The village also has its own stop on the Trier–Apach railway line, with regular Deutsche Bahn services. Bus route 134 connects Temmels directly with Grevenmacher and Luxembourg City. If you are travelling by bus or train, check the latest timetables before setting off.
The two parts of the village make it easier to find your way around: the lower village is right on the Moselle, while the upper village lies above the railway line. If you are looking for accommodation, you can use these different locations as a first point of reference when choosing where to stay.
History and Georgshof
Temmels was first documented in 634 under the historical name Villa Tamaltio. From the Middle Ages until the Congress of Vienna, the village belonged to Luxembourg. This long history is also reflected in Georgshof: formerly an estate belonging to the Teutonic Order in Trier, it is of particular architectural and cultural-historical significance. The Baroque complex has been a protected monument since 1980.
More tours in the Trier-Saarburg destination
For a broader view of the wider Trier-Saarburg destination, regional routes offer a useful point of comparison. Trier-Saarburg district has 492 kilometres of cycle paths. The Tälchen Tour is classified as a moderately difficult circular route: it is 37.28 kilometres long, takes about two hours and 45 minutes according to the information provided, and starts and ends in Konz. The route passes the Wiltinger Saarbogen nature reserve and also recommends a detour to the waterfall in Saarburg’s old town. This circular route, with its stated distance and duration, offers a different kind of tour to the Moselle Cycle Route through Temmels.
Roman history is another theme in the Trier-Saarburg destination. In Tawern, the Roman road settlement of Tabernae is regarded as the origin of the village. It was established shortly before the start of the Common Era on the Roman main road from the Moselle via Metz to Rome. A model of the road settlement, at a scale of 1:75, is displayed in a pavilion; the large reconstructed temple complex of Tawern stands in the forest. The free ARGO app lets visitors view the temple complex on site at its original size and as a 360-degree augmented reality display.
