Neundorf combines a distinctive hiking area with historical and artistic points of interest. In Seidelsgrund, a side valley of the Zschopau between Neundorf and Wiesenbad, dense spruce forests frame sunny meadows. The area is regarded as a hiking paradise. Local history and folk art add further points of interest to the landscape. When looking for accommodation, you can first consider whether nature and hiking destinations or cultural discoveries are more important for your trip.

Hiking Landscapes and Viewpoints

The Schokoladenfelsen viewpoint is 512 m above sea level and rises 78 m above the Zschopau. It offers a beautiful view of the Zschopau Valley. The two elevation figures refer to different points of reference: 512 m above sea level, and 78 m as the difference in elevation above the Zschopau. A hiking guide from 1872 already lists the rock under this name. The “Via the Poplar Avenue to Schokoladenfelsen” hiking route crosses the main road in the lower part of Neundorf and leads via Wiesenbader Weg to Feldgut. Before setting out, check the current route and trail markings, as trail conditions and markings can change.

Local History and Church Art

Neundorf was originally called “Im neuen Dorf” (“In the New Village”) and received its present name in the 14th century. The village church was built in 1899/1900 by the architect Reuther. Thus, local history brings together two distinct milestones: the name change in the 14th century and the construction of the church around 1900.

Five stained-glass windows at the altar of the village church depict the Last Supper of Jesus. Above the altar is a round stained-glass panel showing the Lamb on the book with the seven seals. The windows above the galleries depict Martin Luther as Junker Jörg and the Swedish King Gustav Adolf. The stained-glass images thus alternate between biblical scenes and named historical figures. For those interested in culture, they offer a specific way to discover Neundorf alongside its landscape.
