Discover Bobritzsch: Mining History, Church and Trails
Accommodation in Bobritzsch
Bobritzsch offers several different reasons to explore: traces of historic mining, church art, nature-focused trails and views across the landscape. Its attractions range from a child-friendly educational trail to longer hiking routes. Some sights are located in specific districts, while other hiking information relates to the municipality of Bobritzsch-Hilbersdorf. When planning your visit, it is therefore worth deciding whether cultural history, a short themed trail or a longer hike will be the focus of your stay.
Historic Mining and Church Art
In Niederbobritzsch, the Friedrich Erbstolln is one of the municipality’s last witnesses to its mining past. Its adit entrance can be seen on Schmiedegasse, next to Schmiedegasse 23. It is listed as an individual monument within the “Altbergbaugebiet Rammelsberg” (Historic Mining Area of Rammelsberg) ensemble in the Freiberg mining district and is significant for the local and mining history.
Since 3 October 2021, information about historic mining in Niederbobritzsch has been presented at various locations around the village. A large overview board stands in the village centre at the “Goldener Löwe” bus stop; 14 smaller information boards supplement it at selected sites. This means you can encounter mining-related themes at several locations around the village.
Oberbobritzsch offers a different historical highlight: the tower of St. Nicolai Church is 56 metres high. The church also has a winged altarpiece featuring St. Nicholas enthroned, dating from 1521. Its Silbermann organ is no longer true to its original form. The tower, altar and organ offer different points of interest if you are interested in the village’s sacred architecture and art history.
The oil mill in Bobritzsch is still in operation. The open-air stage in the Niederbobritzsch district hosts cultural events.
Educational Trails, Hiking Routes and Views
The children’s nature trail is 1.2 kilometres long and introduces children to the region’s wildlife in an accessible way. It includes six large information boards and 15 signs. The trail ends at the legendary Jungfernborn spring, where there is a shelter, a small waterwheel and an information board about the story of the three maidens. The trail therefore introduces you both to local wildlife and to the story of the three maidens.
There is also a 19-kilometre circular hiking trail with an educational nature trail in the Oberbobritzsch district. Twelve routes have so far been designated and signposted for the municipality of Bobritzsch-Hilbersdorf. Along these routes, hikers can visit historic and cultural sites and natural monuments, take a break on benches or go swimming. The high ground between the districts offers wide views towards the Tharandt Forest in places; to the south, the outline of the Ore Mountains comes into view.
The route lengths offer a clear comparison: the children’s nature trail is a much shorter option than the 19-kilometre loop in Oberbobritzsch. Consider whether you would prefer a short themed trail or a longer hike to be the focus of your stay. This personal travel preference can also help guide your search for accommodation.
