Rechenberg-Bienenmühle lies in the upper valley of the Freiberger Mulde, amid extensive forests and within the Erzgebirge/Vogtland Nature Park. Parts of the municipality lie within the nature park. Wooded landscapes, historic buildings and brewing history shape different sides of this destination. In the town centre, castle crags, half-timbered houses and a preserved brewery complex come together; at the Öko-Bad, spending time by the water takes centre stage.

Town Centre and Brewing History

Rechenberg’s historic town centre brings together the castle crags, the former castle grounds, half-timbered houses and the preserved historic brewery complex. The Saxon Brewery Museum opened in 2002 after restoration and presents more than 450 years of brewery history. A visit can combine a tour of the brewing facilities with a beer tasting in the vaulted cellars of the former malt house. The museum visit thus takes you from the history of brewing to the facilities and the tasting.

Everyday Life in Clausnitz

In Clausnitz, the focus shifts from the brewery to life and work around 1880 and afterwards. The permanent exhibition “Journey into the Past” at the Clausnitz Local History Museum takes visitors through historic rooms on guided tours and explores the everyday lives of their ancestors up to around 1880. Exhibits include hay and straw plaiting, historic clothing, toys and musical instruments; changing exhibitions complement the display. The two museums therefore have different focuses: in Rechenberg, the central theme is more than 450 years of brewing history, while in Clausnitz it is the lives and working worlds of past generations.

Water and Activity at the Öko-Bad

The Öko-Bad in Rechenberg-Bienenmühle offers a different option for planning your trip. Alongside the 50-metre pool, there is a non-swimmer pool and a children’s pool; the baths are designed to be accessible. A 600-square-metre sunbathing area complements the pools. There is also a playground, table tennis, outdoor chess, volleyball, a climbing rock and a snack bar.

Mittelsachsen in a Wider Context

The wider travel destination of Mittelsachsen offers further nature and culture themes. The 353-metre-high Rochlitzer Berg is a remnant of volcanic activity; its red porphyry tuff is considered unique in Germany and Europe. In Freiberg, the terra mineralia exhibition in Freudenstein Castle displays more than 3,500 minerals, gemstones and meteorites. Rochsburg Castle has housed a museum since 1911. Its exhibition “People Make Clothes” presents 52 costumes spanning 1,000 years of European fashion history. The range of themes in Mittelsachsen thus extends from geology and minerals to castle and fashion history.
