Taucha: Castle History, Art and Trails Along the Parthe
Accommodation in Taucha
Taucha combines historic architecture with art in the landscape and trails for observing nature. You can shape your stay around a range of interests: exploring the history of the manor castle, the landscape along the Parthe, or open fields and wide views.
History and Art in Taucha
Around Schlossberg, Taucha Manor Castle preserves a historic ensemble of buildings. The Kulturscheune at the manor castle is also part of the town’s history: it served as a farmstead in the 16th century and temporarily as a church from 1768 to 1774. These two uses tell the story of the building’s changing roles over the centuries.
The Beau View project, completed in 2020, offers a different perspective. Large, freestanding steel frames direct the eye toward Taucha’s urban and rural landscapes. The Beau View experience trail runs through Seegeritz, Merkwitz, Dewitz and Sehlis; one frame stands at Großer Schöppenteich. The framed views make the landscape itself something to discover and contrast with the history around the castle.
Trails, Waterways and Views
The Parthe hiking trail follows the Parthe through green floodplains, meadows and woodland. Nature can be observed along the route on foot or by bicycle. For a different perspective on the landscape, you can switch to the Höhenweg Lübschütz: it branches off the Parthe hiking trail in Taucha at the Parthenbrücke on Wurzner Straße. The Höhenweg is about 6.8 kilometres long and crosses open fields with wide views across the Leipzig region. The two trails described here therefore offer contrasting landscapes: the greenery of the river floodplain and the openness of the fields.
The nature trail in Staditzwald near Taucha follows the Pönitzer Bach through species-rich floodplain woodland. Information boards along the route add an educational element to observing nature. Another way to take in the surroundings is from the observation tower: it is 22 metres high, and the view requires climbing 99 steps. This gives you a specific point of reference if you want to include the climb in your day’s plans.
You can also experience Taucha from a different angle by bicycle. One route follows the Parthe from Borsdorf, passes through Taucha by the town park and observation tower and through the town centre, then continues via Graßdorf and Seegeritz towards Leipzig. This cycling route complements the hiking trails with a longer route that passes through several towns.
A Trace of Market History
The region around Borna also contributed to local history through a food product: onions from Borna were a sought-after market product in Taucha. This historic connection adds a glimpse of earlier trade to the themes of architecture and landscape. It shows that Taucha is not only a place for trails and views, but also part of a regional market history.
Choose Accommodation to Suit Your Travel Plans

The options described offer different highlights—from the observation tower’s 99 steps to the approximately 6.8-kilometre Höhenweg.
