Scharbeutz combines the Baltic coast with a wide range of ways to enjoy the outdoors. The town has around six kilometres of beach; along the coast runs a multi-purpose promenade with a cycle path that can also be used for inline skating.

Beach, pier and a special place of worship

From the seafront promenade, you have a direct view of the Baltic Sea and direct access to Scharbeutz Pier. It is more than 300 metres long and serves as a maritime promenade with panoramic views across the sea. This makes it easy to combine a beach visit with a walk along the pier, without having to plan a longer trip.

The beach church also stands right by the Baltic Sea. The beach can be incorporated into the church service; service times may change. This shows the coast not only as a backdrop for activity and views, but also as part of a spiritual place.

Time on the water and activities of your choice

There are two SUP stations on the beach. Providers rent out boards and paddles, give beginner lessons and offer SUP courses. Providers and course offerings may change; if you are planning to take part, check availability for your travel dates.

Dune golf offers another way to stay active outdoors: the course has 18 holes among beach grass and obstacles, with the Baltic Sea in the background. For a longer route, the 12.3-kilometre hiking trail from Scharbeutz towards Sierksdorf passes the dune golf course and the skate park in Scharbeutz. This gives you the choice between a round on the course and a longer hike. Operating details for dune golf may change.

The Ostsee Therme Scharbeutz also adds water activities, slides and wellness to the range of options; it also offers leisure activities for families. Individual attractions may change. If you would rather spend the day by the water than follow a route, this is another way to enjoy your time in Scharbeutz.

Cycling tours, fish sandwiches and a stroll

The Fish Sandwich Route follows the coast through Scharbeutz and can be explored by bicycle. Another tour, “Bike Finds Fish”, starts in Scharbeutz and covers 44 kilometres, passing more than 15 fish sandwich stops. The number of stops and route details may change. You can choose between a coastal route through town and a longer cycling tour that features fish sandwich stops.

For a leisurely stroll, DĂĽnenmeile has small shops and boutiques overlooking the sea. The shops represented there may change. The coastal views accompany not only walks, but also a shopping trip.

Practical information for your stay

If you arrive by train, both platforms at Scharbeutz station have step-free access, train displays, tactile guidance systems and high-contrast wayfinding. The platform height is at least 55 centimetres. These details may change if work is carried out at the station.

For bathing in the Baltic Sea, the DLRG offers free beach wheelchair hire in Scharbeutz and Haffkrug from 1 May to 30 September. Check availability in advance for your travel dates. Wooden boardwalks are laid on the beach at section 22 near Capolino; they are removed from autumn to spring because of storms and high water. A nudist beach is designated at beach access 2 near the Ostsee Therme; beach-use regulations may change.
