Discover Wulfen: Cliffs, golf and megalithic history

Cliffs, geological history and golf give Wulfen its distinctive character. Above the Wulfener cliffs stands the XXL field sofa: an oversized, beach-chair-style bench for several people, with views of the cliffs. The cliffs of Wulfener Berg also offer impressive insights into the geological history of the past 20,000 years. If you like to view landscapes on a broader timescale, you will find a geological perspective here that extends far beyond the moment of your visit.

Coast and history

One of the rare sand martin colonies is located on the Wulfener cliffs. You can walk there via the campsite or from the car park on Bargmöhl road. Alongside its geological history, the colony gives this stretch of coast a tangible connection to nature. There is also a naturist beach section near the Wulfener Hals campsite.

A prehistoric megalithic burial ground dating from around 3600 to 3200 BC was located on Wulfener Berg. It included long barrows up to 130 metres long. The date range and maximum length illustrate the scale of the burial ground: its dating places it in prehistory, while the long barrows give the site a specific physical dimension. This early burial history adds a different perspective on the past to the geological insights offered by the coast.

Golf and water activities

Fehmarn Golf Park has an 18-hole course with a par of 72 and views of the Baltic Sea or Burger Binnensee. The number of holes and par score outline the course’s sporting specifications; the views mentioned place it in a scenic setting. For planning your trip, golf is therefore a clearly defined option, distinct from walks along the cliffs, nature watching and history.

The shallow water at Burger Binnensee makes it a safe spot for beginners; the calm water makes those first few metres on a board easier. Here, the focus is on getting started with board sports. This is a different kind of activity from golf or a walk along the coast, and it can help shape your choice of what to focus on during your stay.

Fehmarn Diving Centre has its own swimming pool and easily accessible dive sites. It offers diving lessons for beginners and advanced divers; course availability may vary by season. Unlike Burger Binnensee, the focus here is on diving and lessons for different experience levels, rather than taking your first few metres on a board.
