Barderup: Fishing at the trout lake and pilgrimage routes
Accommodation in Barderup
Fishing is the focus at Forellensee Barderup; the Via Jutlandica continues through Barderup toward Sankelmark and Lake Sankelmark. This brings together two different travel ideas: time spent fishing by the water and a pilgrimage route that continues beyond the village. A public transport stop is also important for getting there. A previous announcement about Rosarium Barderup offers another, historical perspective on the village.
Fishing at the trout lake
Forellensee Barderup has a water surface of 28,000 square metres. There are 20 huts around the lake, making for a relaxing and enjoyable fishing experience even when it rains. The focus is therefore on two specific aspects: the size of the water surface and the opportunity to enjoy fishing even in wet weather. This is a different focus from the routes through Barderup. When planning your trip, you can decide whether to set aside time for fishing at the lake or make a stage of the Via Jutlandica your main focus. The 28,000 square metres are equivalent to 2.8 hectares of water surface.
Pilgrimage routes through Barderup
The Via Jutlandica is a nine-stage pilgrimage route from Krusau to Glückstadt; it also passes through Barderup. On the Handewitt–Süderschmedeby stage, it runs through a pond landscape parallel to the motorway as far as Barderup. This means the section can be identified not only by its start and end points, but also by the surroundings described: both the pond landscape and the motorway are part of the route description.
From Barderup, the pilgrimage route continues toward Sankelmark and Lake Sankelmark. The Western Ox Road also leads to Barderup, turns east there, and passes under the A7 via Sankelmark to Lake Sankelmark. The different details help with orientation: for the Via Jutlandica, the focus is on its stages and the pond landscape described; for the Western Ox Road, the turn east and the route under the A7 are specific route features.
Rosarium Barderup: a past plan
An announcement from 2010 outlined plans for around 120 different rose varieties for Rosarium Barderup, including some old varieties. This historical plan broadens the picture beyond fishing and pilgrimage routes, offering gardening enthusiasts a specific point of reference from the past.
