Tarp: Owl Trail, Erratic Boulder Garden and Leisure Pool
Accommodation in Tarp
Tarp offers several very different ways to explore: you can follow the Treene, take in the wet meadows and valley landscape, see erratic boulders and reconstructed archaeological structures, or make the leisure pool your main focus. The options combine outdoor activities, nature and cultural themes with water-based recreation, without requiring a single day plan to cover everything. When planning your trip and looking for accommodation, it helps to first consider which of these interests you want to shape your days.
Hiking along the Treene
The Owl Trail is a permanently established, freely accessible circular trail that you can join at any point; temporary local restrictions are possible. It follows the Treene to the Behm Hut, with carved owl figures along the way. This gives you a clear destination as well as details to look out for along the route. Check local trail notices before setting out, as temporary restrictions are possible.
The Church and Viewpoint Tour offers a different perspective: it crosses the Treene via the Fischer Bridge and provides views of wet meadows in the Treene Valley, including a stork’s nest. White Park cattle graze on the wet meadows along the tour. At the Treene viewpoint, look out over the river and the surrounding nature. The Treene Valley also includes forests, meadows and lakes. The tours have different focuses: the Owl Trail leads to the Behm Hut and features carved owls, while the Church and Viewpoint Tour combines a river crossing with views of the wet meadows.
Erratic boulders, reconstructions and a mill
The freely accessible Tarp Erratic Boulder Garden brings together geological history and archaeological themes. Around 70 erratic boulders are presented with information about their material, origin and transport by glaciers. The reconstructed structures include a stone circle, a burial mound with a tree-trunk coffin, and a chamber tomb complex. Here, you can see both evidence of glacial movement and reconstructed archaeological forms in one place.
Another local attraction, Antje Mill on Stapelholmer Weg, adds to the range of places to explore in Tarp.
Water-based recreation at Tarp Leisure Pool
The leisure pool offers a different focus from the trails and the erratic boulder garden. It has a 50-metre pool, diving towers at 1, 3 and 5 metres, and two water slides. There is also a toddler area with water features and a playground. Parking at the leisure pool is free. Check the details of the facilities and the parking arrangements before your visit.
Choose accommodation to suit your own travel plans
This helps you decide which experiences you want to shape your stay in Tarp and which accommodation options you would like to explore further for your trip.
