A particular focus in Jagel is water sports: a water-skiing and wakeboarding park is located at Selker Weg 26a. It offers recreational sports for individuals and groups; the facilities also include a lawn and a bistro serving refreshments. If you are looking for accommodation in Jagel, the park can be a useful starting point for your plans: consider whether water skiing or wakeboarding suits your travel interests. The operator refers visitors to its website for opening hours; check there before planning a visit.

Getting here and finding your way around

Jagel is accessible by road via the Schleswig/Jagel exit on the A7. The exit connects directly to the B77 towards Rendsburg. Check the current route before travelling, as road conditions can change. At the level of the wider Schleswig-Flensburg destination, the picture is broader: public transport, cycling and waterways also play a role in getting around the region. This keeps the road directions for Jagel and the regional options clearly at their respective levels.

Landscape and nature in the wider destination

Schleswig-Flensburg offers a distinct range of landscape and nature experiences. The district’s regional character includes well-maintained cycling and hiking trails as well as forests, lakes, meadows, moors, beaches and sailing areas. One specific example is Geltinger Birk: at 773 hectares, it is the largest nature reserve in Schleswig-Flensburg district. Well-maintained trails and guided walks, which share information about flora and fauna, make it a destination for nature and hiking. More than 130 bird species can be observed on Holnis, including around 65 breeding species. The peninsula is also the northernmost tip of Schleswig-Holstein’s young moraine landscape. Guided nature experiences and birdwatching therefore offer different interests within the wider destination.

The Schlei: landscapes, trails and a circular route

The Schlei Nature Park is also part of the wider Schleswig-Flensburg destination. Gentle hills, forests, hedgerow landscapes, rapeseed and grain fields, sandy beaches and swimming coves shape the landscape. The Schlei’s brackish-water areas provide a habitat for numerous endangered bird species. Visitors can join guided nature tours; the Wikinger-Friesen-Weg, the Ochsenweg and 15 signposted themed cycle routes also run through the landscape. One specific cycling option is the 25-kilometre SchleiUferTörn: this circular cycle route goes around the middle section of the Schlei and starts in Arnis. This lets you choose between a guided nature tour, signposted trails and a named circular route.

History, culture and other experiences

In the wider Schleswig-Flensburg destination, Haithabu and the Danewerk have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since June 2018. More than 25 kilometres of the rampart of the Danewerk still remain today. The historical memorial site and Idstedt Museum provide information about German-Danish history surrounding the uprising of 1848 and the Battle of Idstedt. Another cultural thread leads to Kappeln: from 1986 to 2012, the town served as a filming location for the television series “Der Landarzt” under the name “Deekelsen”. Arnis and the Schlei were also filming locations for a German adaptation of “Famous Five”; Arnis is now also a destination for water sports enthusiasts.

The Tolk-Schau, a family amusement park, offers a different kind of leisure activity in the wider Schleswig-Flensburg destination. Attractions include rides, playgrounds, park railways and fairy-tale huts, as well as more than 100 life-size dinosaurs. The range of regional experiences therefore includes an amusement park with a variety of attractions alongside nature and history.
