Trappenkamp combines its location right next to the Segeberger Forest with a local history explored at the G5 Bunker Museum. There are also nature experiences, a versatile forest swimming pool and tours through the surrounding area. If you are looking for accommodation, your preferred focus can help you decide: forest and outdoor activities, wildlife and nature experiences, or the history of the town.

Forest, Tours and Water-Based Leisure

Trappenkamp is right next to the Segeberger Forest, making it a natural base for outdoor activities. The Holstein Switzerland Nature Park begins just a few kilometres away. Seven tours lead to sights and through the landscapes around Trappenkamp. This gives you several ways to explore the area, without having to limit your plans to a single route.

The forest swimming pool adds specific opportunities for games and sports to the natural setting: mini golf, beach soccer, volleyball, chess, table tennis and table football are all available, as are play equipment, sandpits and a children’s pool. Options range from ball games to a game of chess; the facilities combine swimming with other leisure ideas.

Nature Experiences and Practical Information

ErlebnisWald Trappenkamp offers walk-through wildlife enclosures, nature experiences in the forest, a large adventure playground, and places to picnic or barbecue. Wildlife watching, experiencing the forest and playing in the adventure area offer different ways to spend your time; the picnic and barbecue facilities add the option of taking a break outdoors. ErlebnisWald grew out of the former Trappenkamp Wildlife Park and is now part of Schleswig-Holsteinische Landesforsten.

There is free parking at ErlebnisWald for visitors arriving by car. A free motorhome parking area for up to twelve vehicles is also available at the sports centre. As facilities may change, check current parking arrangements and availability before travelling.

Local History, Craftsmanship and Art

The G5 Bunker Museum was one of around 100 former ammunition storage buildings at the Trappenkamp ammunition arsenal. The exhibition traces the site’s transformation from military use, through the settlement of refugees, to the founding of Trappenkamp in 1956. It also displays objects related to the Gablonz glass industry, which were manufactured in Trappenkamp until the 1950s. Tours for individual visitors, groups and school classes are available by arrangement, so please schedule your visit in advance.

Craftsmanship is also part of the town’s history: the Trappenkamp Experiential Blacksmith’s Workshop is a working museum created by a family with 150 years of blacksmithing history. Two sculptures add further points of interest to the townscape. The Mönchsweg sculpture at the corner of Hermannstädter Straße and Kieler Straße points pilgrims along the route; the Dukatenesel stands in front of the Sparkasse in Trappenkamp.
