On the edge of Gräfenroda, near Geschwenda, lies the “Alte Lache” recreation area, next to the Wilde Gera and at the foot of the Weißer Stein. The grounds include a sports park, gondola ponds, a festival site and a biker guesthouse. From here, you can enjoy easy and challenging hikes, as well as excursions on foot, by bicycle or motorcycle.

Nature and Activity

The large gondola pond is now used by the local angling club and is also a popular place for a walk or a relaxing break. The “Alte Lache” woodland playground has double swings, a climbing net, a spider climber, slides, a trampoline, a climbing course and other play equipment. This recreation area therefore offers different ways to enjoy the outdoors side by side: a peaceful break by the pond and active play in the playground.

Crafts and Local History

There are different ways to explore local craftsmanship. At the Zwörgshop, you can use brushes and paints to create your own garden gnome with guidance from the staff. Check the current registration requirements in advance. At the Zwergstatt, you can watch craftspeople at work; check the current visiting arrangements in advance.

The exhibitions also focus on different topics. Haus Grevenrot traces Gräfenroda’s development from its beginnings to modern times across ten themed rooms. It includes a collection of church tower clocks from the former Kühn tower clock factory in Gräfenroda. The Zwergstatt manufactory museum explores the origins and development of craftsmanship: its exhibition spans eight rooms and features more than 400 selected objects. You can choose between learning about local history and the development of a craft.

The Zwergstatt museum is not accessible to visitors with disabilities. Before your trip, check with the operator what this means for your visit.

Trails, Plants and Views

A sign at the start of the trail above St. Laurentius Church provides information about flowering plants that can be seen in the nature reserve at different times of year. It draws attention to plants whose appearance changes over the course of the year.

The nature trail at Burglehne can be reached in just over ten minutes from Lindenplatz in the town centre via “Zum Wolfstal” street and the “Hölle” field path. Actual walking time may vary depending on your pace. The Kammberg-Glöckchen can be reached on foot from various directions and lies on the boundary between Gräfenroda and Geschwenda. The “Kellner-Blick” viewpoint offers walkers a view of Gräfenroda and the Wilde Gera valley.

Choose Accommodation Based on Your Travel Interests

If you are looking for accommodation, first consider what you want your days to revolve around: trails and views, creating something yourself, or discovering local history and craftsmanship. This priority gives your search direction and helps you decide whether Gräfenroda suits your travel plans.
