Kleinobringen combines distinctive village details with sweeping views across the countryside and a regional circular route. You can discover the village on a small scale, through its waterways and tree species, as well as along the broader route of the Kleine Ettersbergrunde. This lets you focus on Kleinobringen itself or include it in a trip that takes in several villages.

Water, trees and distant views

The Bachlange and the Rassel flow through Kleinobringen. However, the Rassel is not visible along its entire course: it can be seen at the edge of the village and outside it, but within the village it runs through a culvert. The appearance of this watercourse therefore varies from one section to another. Birches, small-leaved lime trees, chestnut trees and ash trees also shape the village landscape.

In good weather, the view from Kleinobringen stretches across the Thuringian Basin to the ridges of the Finnen, the Schmücke and the Hainleite, and as far as the Kyffhäuser. These distant views offer a different perspective from the individual features of the village landscape. If you want to include the wide-ranging views in your travel plans, bear in mind that they depend on good weather and keep your schedule flexible. This is helpful when planning a day out with children: you can treat the weather-dependent views and the circular route as separate highlights.

History and circular route

Kleinobringen was first mentioned on 13 June 1342. This date provides a precise historical point of reference alongside the scenery and the modern perspective offered by the route. A first recorded mention refers to the earliest known reference, not necessarily the date the village was founded. If you are interested in local history as well as the landscape, the date provides a clear point of reference.

The Kleine Ettersbergrunde is 23.5 kilometres long and crosses the Ettersberg, passing through the villages to its east. It connects Schloss Ettersburg, Wohlsborn, Großobringen, Kleinobringen and Heichelheim; the circular route passes through Kleinobringen. This lets you see the village as part of a regional route that takes in several named places. It is also worth looking at an individual section of the route when planning your trip.

Between Heichelheim and Kleinobringen, a field path on the route provides a shortcut of about 1.5 kilometres uphill towards Ettersburger Straße. The approximately 1.5 kilometres refers to this section; 23.5 kilometres, by contrast, is the length of the entire circular route. The total distance and the climb answer different planning questions: they show the overall length of the route and a specific uphill section. Check current route conditions before setting out.
