Delkenheim combines a rural landscape with local history whose traces reach back to the Middle Ages. Nature and history offer two concrete themes for planning your trip: the Regional Park Trail and the town’s historical landmarks. If you are looking for accommodation, you can first consider which focus you want your days to have and whether you would also like to explore themes related to the wider destination of Wiesbaden.

Landscape and trails along the Wickerbach

Around Delkenheim, fields, vineyards and orchards are part of the landscape. The Wickerbach flows through the center of the town, with tree-lined banks. The Regional Park Trail “Through the Wickerbach floodplain” starts on Elisabethenstraße in Delkenheim. It is around 5.5 kilometers long and easy to walk. It is accessible year-round and free of charge. Before setting out, it is worth checking the current trail conditions, as temporary work on the paths may affect access. Its length and difficulty rating give you a clear guide for a day outdoors.

Activities and getting there

The public 6-hole short course at Golf-Club Main-Taunus e.V. in Wiesbaden-Delkenheim is open to members and visitors. At least one player in each group must hold a certificate of playing proficiency. If you are planning to play golf, check the visitor requirements before your visit, as they may change. Delkenheim is also close to the A66 and A3 motorways, making it very easy to reach. Walking and golf offer different kinds of activities: the Regional Park Trail is free and accessible year-round; the golf course requires a certificate of playing proficiency.

Traces of local history

Local history also offers clearly distinct points in time. An Eppstein fief register from 1290 mentions Delkenheim wine; the parish church of Delkenheim is first mentioned in 1299. The reference to wine therefore predates the first mention of the church by nine years and brings together two distinct historical themes of the town.

Another find comes from excavations on Landwehrstraße: in 1998, the 1,300-year-old skeleton “Delki” was discovered there. It is now on display in the local history museum. Since 1985, the meeting room of the local administration has been used twice a year for various special exhibitions. In December 1996, the local history museum was given a permanent home in the annex of the town hall for its numerous collections and historical furnishings.

Wiesbaden in a broader context

The wider destination of Wiesbaden offers a distinct architectural perspective. The extensive building activity of the 19th century shaped a significant surviving cityscape of historicism. The new Kurhaus Wiesbaden was inaugurated in 1907 in the presence of Kaiser Wilhelm II. Biebrich Palace is a magnificent three-winged Baroque building right on the banks of the Rhine in Wiesbaden’s Biebrich district and was built between 1700 and 1750. With its inauguration in 1907, the Kurhaus points to a later historical moment than Biebrich Palace, whose construction dates from 1700 to 1750.
