Tülau: Bee Nature Trail and St. John’s Church
Accommodation in Tülau
Tülau brings together a bee-themed attraction and architectural history: the Bee Nature Trail run by the Brome Beekeepers’ Association is located on the western edge of the village, while St. John’s Church tells the story of a building constructed in the early 20th century. These two distinct points of interest give a stay in Tülau a specific local context.
Bee Nature Trail, Church and Surroundings
The Bee Nature Trail can be visited year-round at any time of day. At the “Tülau Pub,” you can cool your feet. This connects the trail’s bee theme with a specific, named spot by the water. The trail therefore offers a different focus from the church’s architectural history: here, nature is the main theme; there, the story of a building’s origins.
St. John’s Church in Tülau was built in 1929/1930 to plans by Adolf Schulze, a master carpenter from Fahrenhorst. The construction dates, designer and his professional title provide a precise historical reference point for the village. Those interested in this history can combine it with a visit to the Bee Nature Trail, a second attraction with a very different focus.
The nearby Kiebitzmoor lies west of Tülau. The Kleine Aller drains the moor through a system of ditches that has been expanded over the past centuries. The connection between the river, the moor and the historically developed drainage system adds a perspective on the surrounding landscape to Tülau’s two specific points of interest.
More Perspectives in the District of Gifhorn
The district of Gifhorn brings together a variety of landscapes: heathland, forests, moorland, rivers and lakes. The Drömling, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, is also part of the district. This broader perspective complements the local view of Tülau without equating the district’s landscape features with individual places.
One cultural destination in the district is the International Wind and Watermill Museum in Gifhorn. It has 13 full-size original mills from around the world. The village square on the museum grounds is open to all visitors free of charge. Fresh bread from the historic bakehouse and regional specialties are also available at the farm shop. Check current access information and food offerings before your visit.
At the OTTER-ZENTRUM Hankensbüttel, visitors can observe otters, badgers, stoats, stone martens, polecats, mink and pine martens in enclosures designed to resemble their natural habitats. The NABU Species Conservation Centre in Leiferde has a different focus: it cares for native wild animals in need, mainly birds, and releases recovered animals back into their natural habitats as quickly as possible.
Another way to experience the landscape is the Moorbahn Großes Moor. It travels into the Großes Moor, in the municipality of Sassenburg, at six kilometres per hour in covered carriages specially adapted for passenger transport. The circular route has two stops, a boardwalk and an observation platform. Services are seasonal and weather-dependent; check in advance whether a ride is available on your chosen date.
Cycle Routes and Public Bus Services
There are also different scales to consider when planning routes. The municipality of Tülau is connected to the district cycle network. Across the district, the network includes around 700 kilometres of leisure cycle routes, plus approximately 550 kilometres of everyday cycling routes and connecting paths. Around 400 signposted junctions can be combined to plan individual cycle routes. The Südheide “Cycling” flyer lists 14 signposted tours; GPX tracks and further information can be downloaded via a QR code. Check the latest version of the flyer and route data before planning.
The municipality of Tülau generally has hourly public bus services to Wolfsburg and Gifhorn. This information applies to the municipality; check current timetables for your specific journey.
