Accommodation in Farven
Farven: village character and play and water park
Farven can be discovered through two distinct features: the Pella community church and the play and water park. These bring local history and a place associated with water into focus. When looking for accommodation, you can first consider whether to focus your trip on Farven itself or also on nature and cultural destinations in the wider Rotenburg destination.
The Pella community church in Farven was built in 1910 and shapes the village’s character. Its role makes it a tangible landmark for anyone who wants to experience the village through its built heritage as well.
Farven’s play and water park includes a pond with a sandy beach, a stream, and a large lawn. The water and open green space offer a different setting from the church that shapes the village’s character. Admission is free; donations are welcome. Check the admission information again before your trip.
Excursions in the wider Rotenburg destination
The wider Rotenburg destination offers more ways to focus on nature and culture. The 24 NORDPFADE trails in the district of Rotenburg (Wümme) are circular hiking routes ranging from 5 to 32 kilometres in length. The NORDPFAD Ostetal runs through one of northern Germany’s most beautiful natural river landscapes, with dense floodplain forests, wet meadows, reed beds, and steep slopes. Route lengths and landscape features offer different considerations when choosing a hike.
Cycle routes and regional discoveries
The Wümme Cycle Route comprises a northern route of about 125 kilometres and a southern route of about 135 kilometres. Connecting routes divide them into attractive individual sections, which are also suitable for day trips and families. This offers a choice between two longer routes and planning a trip in shorter sections.
In the wider region around Selsingen, small signs along the SteinErlebnisRoute 3 inform cyclists about historical and cultural objects along the route. This gives it a different focus from the route structure of the Wümme Cycle Route: here, information signs introduce historical and cultural themes along the way.
Moorland and other destinations
Together with Ekelmoor, Tister Bauernmoor forms a 1,220-hectare nature reserve complex in the district of Rotenburg (Wümme). The Moorbahn Burgsittensen train travels through Tister Bauernmoor at 6 km/h. The landscape is a typical raised bog, with pools, grasses, heather plants, and birch trees. The nature reserve and the bog railway offer two different ways to experience this landscape.
LandPark Lauenbrück is home to 200 wild and farm animals in spacious enclosures and large barns. A different subject is explored at the Sandbostel Camp Memorial: young people can take part in various educational programs there, focused on commemoration, remembrance, and learning at the historic site.
Sandbostel is a starting point for canoe trips on the Oste. The Oste is navigable only when water levels are high enough, so check the water level before planning a trip.
In Bremervörde, the Bachmann Museum is housed in the city’s oldest building, the last surviving structure of Bremervörde Castle. The exhibition is currently closed while renovation work is underway.
