Redefin brings together a State Stud with guided tours and carriage rides, a route approximately 170 kilometres long, and a neo-Gothic village church. These attractions span everything from visiting a historic site to exploring landscapes and architectural history. When planning your trip, the difference in scale is particularly useful: a visit to the stud can be scheduled more precisely than a journey along the extensive Stud Trail.

Redefin State Stud: tour, carriage ride and concert

A guided tour introduces you to the historic grounds of the Redefin State Stud. It lasts about 120 minutes; advance registration is required for guided tours. A carriage ride lasts about an hour and starts and ends at the entrance to the Landstallmeisterhaus (Master of the Stud’s House). The tour therefore takes roughly twice as long as the ride. Check the latest booking information before planning your visit.

During the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festival, the riding hall at the historic portal of the State Stud becomes a concert venue twice each festival summer. This seasonal cultural event adds another reason to visit alongside the tours and carriage rides. Check the current programme if you would like to plan your trip around a concert.

The Stud Trail and its landscapes

The Stud Trail starts at the Mecklenburg State Stud in Redefin and leads to the Brandenburg Main and State Stud in Neustadt (Dosse). It is approximately 170 kilometres long, well signposted and passes through varied landscapes between the Griesen Gegend, the Flusslandschaft Elbe-Brandenburg UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in the Prignitz region, and the Westhavelland. The route is therefore on a different scale from visits to the State Stud, which have a defined duration. Its course connects several named landscape areas; its length and signposting give you a clear sense of direction.

Redefin Village Church: neo-Gothic architectural history

Redefin Village Church was built between 1843 and 1847 as a neo-Gothic brick church with a central tower. It houses the oldest organ in Mecklenburg. The furnishings from the early neo-Gothic period have been preserved almost in their entirety. The church’s construction period, architecture and furnishings give it a distinct cultural and historical focus, while the organ adds a musical dimension. Thus, in Redefin, the church and its preserved furnishings stand alongside the stud and the route.

Cultural history in the wider destination of Ludwigslust-Parchim

In the wider destination of Ludwigslust-Parchim, Ludwigslust Palace offers a distinct cultural attraction. It was the former residence of the Dukes of Mecklenburg. The palace, park and town form an ensemble known as the “Little Versailles of the North”. The palace is also the centrepiece of an almost completely preserved late Baroque townscape, with a former court church and an English-style landscaped park. Inside, visitors can learn about art and courtly life in the 18th and early 19th centuries. Redefin’s connections to the stud and church can thus be distinguished from Ludwigslust’s courtly cultural history; the two themes belong to different places within the wider destination.
