You can discover Lewitzrand in many different ways: village churches and historic sites sit alongside lakes, a bathing area, a nature reserve and trails through the Lewitz. The sights are spread across the villages in the municipality. When planning your trip, you can therefore treat village history, nature and outdoor activities as separate points of interest.

Village Churches and History in the Villages

The sights include the village churches in Raduhn, Klinken, Garwitz and Matzlow, Raduhner See and Klinker See. In Garwitz, you will also find the lock system, the Old Lock Gate and Eldebad; in Rusch, the Old Forester’s Lodge with its fallow deer enclosure is another listed attraction. Klinken Church features a medieval ribbed vault and restored wall paintings—a distinctive architectural detail among the local cultural attractions.

The upper gate of the old Garwitz lock was built in 1894, and its wooden gate was renewed in 1989. During the lock’s major reconstruction in 2000/2001, the gate was dismantled and installed above the lock. It has been preserved there as a technical monument and is open to visitors. The dates mark different stages: the construction of the gate, the renewal of the wooden gate, and its later installation above the lock.

Rusch also offers several points of interest for a culture-focused stay. A local history room is housed in the historic forester’s lodge in the village district. In Rusch, near Raduhn, visitors can browse three pottery workshops. The Pingelhof in Alt Damerow is also among the recommended excursion destinations.

Hiking, Cycling and Excursion Destinations

Extensive hiking and cycling routes into the Lewitz Landscape Conservation Area start in the municipality’s villages. A cycle path connects all the villages and their excursion destinations. Recommended destinations include the Garwitz-Damm Elde Hiking Trail, the Klinken Cultural Trail and the Garwitz Cultural Trail. Other recommended destinations are the observation tower at the Dütchow High Bridge, the carp ponds in the Lewitz, and Friedrichsmoor Hunting Lodge and forest. This gives you a choice of routes and destinations with different names and themes when planning a day out.

A circular hiking trail, or woodland path, to the Pingelhof Museum starts and ends at the waterside rest area in Garwitz. One circular route passes through Garwitz, along the MĂĽritz-Elde Waterway, through Malchow and past the Pingelhof before returning to Garwitz; it is about 10 km long. The Garwitz-Damm Elde Hiking Trail is also one of the routes recommended by the municipality.

Nature, Water and Swimming

Klinker Plage Nature Reserve is a habitat for rare and sometimes endangered animal and plant species. It adds a distinct nature-focused attraction to the lakes and trails. If you want to balance nature, culture and outdoor activities differently, you can include the protected landscape, village churches, and the hiking and cycling routes described here as separate interests in your travel plans.

Eldebad Garwitz has a large sunbathing lawn, a baby pool, a non-swimmer pool and a swimming pool with four 50-metre lanes. Its annual Neptune Festival is a tradition. The pool operates seasonally; check its opening dates before visiting. Check the date and programme of the Neptune Festival in advance.

Lewitzcamp-Garwitz is a small, natural campsite right on the Müritz-Elde Waterway. When choosing accommodation, Lewitzrand’s different attractions can help you focus your search on the kind of trip you want—for example, village history, walking or cycling excursions, nature, or a stay at a campsite. When choosing a base, it is also worth considering the cycle path that connects the villages and their excursion destinations.
