Discover Datzetal: Manor Houses, Churches and Trails
Accommodation in Datzetal
Datzetal reveals its history in many different places: a Slavic rampart lies in the manor park in Pleetz, manor houses preserve traces of different centuries, and near Salow, trails lead to a pond, forest and lake. History and time outdoors give your stay different focal points.
Castles, Manor Houses and Churches
The Pleetz rampart dates from the early Slavic period of the 8th or 9th century and is located in what is now the manor park. The former castle in Pleetz, now a manor house, also reaches back into medieval history: it was first mentioned in 1366 and was a knight’s estate in the mid-14th century. The Pleetz estate was also associated with the hereditary office of Land Marshal of the Lordship of Stargard. Until the end of the monarchy, a member of the Hahn family held this office for almost 450 years.
The manor houses in the localities tell of different building periods. Sadelkow Manor House was built in the first half of the 18th century and renovated in the early 20th century. The landscape park and the steward’s house, built in 1890, have been preserved from the Roga estate; Roga Manor House is privately owned. The church in Roga also dates from an early period: it was built in the early 14th century.
Another striking building is Salow’s fieldstone church. It dates from 1308 and is the oldest building in the municipality today. The former manor house in Salow now houses the village centre, with a community centre, youth club, restaurant, ceramics workshop and local history room. In Salow, therefore, both architectural history and village life facilities are part of the townscape.
Trails and Countryside near Salow
The Poetensteig trail runs alongside the pond in Salow Manor Park. The route, reinstated in 1991, has been resurfaced. A hike or bike ride starts at the Salow granary, passes Klosterkoppel and continues to Schwarzer See. The granary is the meeting point and starting point for the hike; parking is available there for cars and bicycles. The path by the park pond and the tour to Schwarzer See offer different points of reference for your planning.
On a hike from Salow into Salow Forest in the direction of Beseritz, Zieglersee is also still there. It lies in the middle of a field and can only be reached on foot across the field.
When planning your trip, consider whether you mainly want to discover the area’s architectural and local history or set aside time for hiking and cycling. This focus can also be a first point of reference when looking for accommodation for your stay in Datzetal.
