Discover Dreierwalde
Accommodation in Dreierwalde
Agriculture dominates Dreierwalde’s outward appearance. At the same time, paths through woods, fields and open countryside, together with historic points of interest, give the village its distinct character. When planning your trip, you can treat nature experiences and village history as two complementary areas of focus.
Paths through woods, fields and open countryside
“Lünnemanns Pättken” runs through woods, fields and open countryside to the vicinity of the Aabrücke bridge. The “Hörstel - Hopsten” Church Routes Trail offers a different way to explore the area: it starts in Hörstel-Dreierwalde, passes through Hörstel-Ostenwalde and returns to Hörstel-Dreierwalde. The route is about 24 kilometres long and follows flat terrain. The Pättken focuses on landscape features and the proximity of the Aabrücke bridge; the Church Routes Trail has a specified starting point, route and return.
Dreierwalde is also connected to Spelle, Hopsten and Hörstel by cycling and walking routes, and is linked to NRW’s cycling network. This makes it possible to distinguish the named Church Routes Trail and its described route from the wider connections that link several towns. When planning your excursions, you can follow either the specific route or the regional connections mentioned here.
Village history and character
Reinings Mill dates back to the beginning of the 18th century. Burrichter Farm is an impressively restored, listed farmstead; the path back to the starting point leads past it. Together, these two places represent different aspects of Dreierwalde’s history.
The church surroundings also form part of the village’s character: the lovingly redesigned grounds around St. Anna have helped Dreierwalde preserve its rural character. The mill, farmstead and church thus offer different points of interest for anyone who wants to explore the village’s history and design as well as its paths during their stay.
In the wider Hörstel destination
In the wider Hörstel destination, the focus expands from Dreierwalde’s paths and local history to the landscape, culture and leisure activities. Hörstel’s landscape is shaped by the transition from the Münsterland Park Landscape to the Teutoburg Forest and by the 95-metre-high Huckberg. The 57-hectare Torfmoor recreation area in Hörstel includes the Torfmoorsee of the same name. Visitors can sail, fish and surf there; the lake also has a sandy beach and a sunbathing lawn for relaxing in the sun. If you plan to take part in any of these activities, check the local conditions in advance.
For more than ten years, the DA Kunsthaus Kloster Gravenhorst has offered a space to experience contemporary, interdisciplinary art and culture through participation and reflection. With its church, convent buildings, mill, millpond, bakehouse and brewery, monastery wall and historic bridges, the former monastery presents the image of an almost completely preserved monastic complex. Its programme includes guided tours about the monastery’s history and art, as well as theatrical tours featuring historical characters on the first and third Sunday of each month. Group tours can be booked by arrangement; check the dates before visiting.
In Bevergern, St. Marien Parish Church tells its architectural story in several stages: it is a Late Gothic hall church with a polygonal choir dating from the 15th century and a richly decorated interior. In 1686, its tower was raised using dressed stone from Bevergern Castle, which was demolished in 1680; further extensions were added in 1759, 1767 and 1937. The Küsterei is a half-timbered gable house with a half-hipped roof dating from 1663 and is one of Bevergern’s oldest houses. As a former farm workers’ house, it has a large entrance hall behind the gateway.
Riesenbeck International equestrian centre provides another cultural highlight in the Hörstel destination, offering training and equestrian competitions. When planning your accommodation, you can decide whether to focus on Dreierwalde’s paths and local history or also include culture, landscape and leisure activities elsewhere in the wider Hörstel destination.
