Discover Jockgrim: Art Trail, Zehnthaus and Brickmaking History
Accommodation in Jockgrim
Jockgrim brings together public art, a distinctive half-timbered house, the history of brickmaking and a gravel lake. This offers several themes to consider when planning your trip: art and architectural history, insights into past production, or time by the water. When looking for accommodation, you can consider which of these sides of the town you would like to shape your stay.
Art in the Town and at the Zehnthaus
The Jockgrim Art Trail presents 19 works of art in public spaces. This short discovery trail makes local art the focus of a walk and is considered easy and safe to access. The Zehnthaus offers a different perspective: this large half-timbered house was built in 1718 and hosts art exhibitions. It is also considered a well-known centre for modern art. Historic architecture and contemporary art come together in this one building.
From Brickmaking to Local History
The Jockgrim Brickworks Museum explores around a century of brickmaking history. Its exhibition traces the process from clay extraction to the dispatch of bricks, showcasing different stages of production. The restored original rotary press is particularly vivid, offering a glimpse into the brickworks' former production methods. Together with the Zehnthaus, the museum offers a look at two different sides of the town's history: the architectural history of a half-timbered house and the industrial production of bricks.
Hinterstädtel, the Town Wall and Walking Routes
Hinterstädtel is considered the oldest part of Jockgrim; the town wall dates back to the 15th century. The Woog footpath runs along the wall. Hinterstädtel, the town wall and Lina-Sommer-Platz are open to the public and are not subject to opening hours. This makes it possible to explore the town's history through its public spaces and a surviving historic structure.
The Gravel Lake and Time Outdoors
Jockgrim's gravel lake is located in the Johanneswiesen recreation area. Its clear water and well-maintained sunbathing areas of sand and grass offer a contrast to the art and history themes. Access for swimming may vary by season, so check conditions before swimming. The Otterbachbruch hiking trail is also accessible by public transport. Jockgrim therefore offers different ways to spend time outdoors, from a visit to the water to a hiking trail.
Getting There and Finding Your Way
Jockgrim lies on the Schifferstadt–Wörth railway line. Since 2010, the town has been connected to the Karlsruhe Stadtbahn on the Germersheim–Wörth section. There are freely accessible bicycle stands at the station, suitable for e-bikes. Art, local history, brick production, the lake and walking trails offer different starting points when deciding what you would like to focus on during your stay.
Culture in the Wider Germersheim Destination
