Neupotz brings together Rhine floodplains, village history and Roman heritage in its own distinctive way. Rare animal and plant species, paths along the water and insights into flood protection give the landscape its special character. Museums and trips aboard the Lusoria Rhenana offer further perspectives. You can shape your stay around whether you are most interested in observing nature, discovering local history, or learning about water and flood protection.

Rhine floodplains and paths

The Neupotz Rhine floodplains are considered an important habitat for rare animal and plant species. The Fischerweg offers opportunities to observe rare bird species in the floodplains. The Seerosenweg has a different focus: it is a waterside walking path with lovely views. The two paths therefore cater to different interests—birdwatching on the one hand and a route along the water on the other. Check current path conditions before setting out. You can reach the Fischerweg via the Neupotz exit on the B9; check the current route before driving there.

Flood protection, village history and Roman times

At the Wörth/Jockgrim flood retention polder in Neupotz, you can see how flood protection works. Guided walks and cycle tours are offered along the facility. As the availability of these tours should be confirmed before you arrive, check whether a tour is available well in advance.

Haus Leben am Strom traces Neupotz’s development from a fishing and basket-making village to a workers’ village and then a modern village, in the context of flood protection. Information panels, interactive screens and listening stations explain the significance of flood protection in the past and present. The Neupotz Local History Museum offers another perspective on the village, with objects from village life and handmade baskets linked to its basket-making tradition. The traditional crafts covered include shoemaking, basket-making, baking, fishing, saddlery, wagon-making and barbering.

An ancient find is also part of Neupotz’s history: in the 1980s, a Roman treasure containing more than 1,000 objects and weighing a total of 700 kilograms was discovered here. The number of objects and the total weight make this a remarkable find.

The Lusoria Rhenana and local specialties

The Lusoria Rhenana is moored at the Setzfeldsee in Neupotz. Bookable recreational trips are available for groups of at least twelve people. They cover Roman history, rowing techniques, shipbuilding and ancient uses of the vessel; moving the boat requires teamwork. Public trips for individuals and small groups take place on the first Sunday of each month. Check the schedule and booking options before your visit, as dates and availability may change.

There are several ways to plan your meals: several direct-sale farms sell food straight from the farm, and Neupotz also has a butcher and two bakeries. Fish specialties are also part of Neupotz’s food scene. Offerings at individual farms and restaurants may change, so it is worth checking current options if you are looking for specific products or dishes.

Choose accommodation to suit your travel interests

When looking for accommodation in Neupotz, it helps to first decide what you want to focus on during your stay: Would you like to experience the Rhine floodplains and their birdlife, learn about village history and flood protection, or plan a trip aboard the Lusoria Rhenana?
