Circular trails, activity stations and nature information at the Kranichwoog give Hütschenhausen a clear focus for outdoor stays. The offerings vary in distance and theme: a historic route, interactive stations, or information about the moorland and birdlife. This lets you plan your stay around the experiences that interest you most.

Paths Between Outdoor Activities and Local History

The municipality had announced that the “Natur+Kultur” hiking trail network would open on September 26, 2026. It was to comprise five interconnected themed circular trails in the northern part of the municipal area, covering around 23 kilometers in total. The trails bring exercise, nature and local history to life. The municipality had announced that the network would open on September 26, 2026.

The Lorenpfad is 2.2 kilometers long and runs through the north along a historic narrow-gauge railway route, which was specifically built for the construction of the motorway in 1940/41. This brings a specific chapter of construction history into the route. The 3.2-kilometer WaldAktiv-Pfad takes a different approach: sustainable activity stations along the trail invite visitors to join in. While the Lorenpfad is shaped by its historic route, participation at the stations takes center stage here.

The Natura 2000 Kranichwoog Experience Trail offers routes of different lengths; the longer loop is 5.3 kilometers long. Its length provides another option alongside the shorter Lorenpfad and WaldAktiv-Pfad routes.

Nature Information at the Kranichwoog

Along the Kranichwoog Experience Trail and inside the observation tower, information panels cover Natura 2000, the Kranichwoog, the moorland and the forest. QR codes on the trail’s information panels provide access to radio-play-style audio recordings with additional information. This lets you learn about the landscape not only while walking, but also through written and audio content.

On the observation tower’s top viewing platform, smaller panels provide information about 24 bird species that are regularly found at the Kranichwoog. Together with the information about the forest and moorland, they offer a closer look at the different subjects covered along the Experience Trail and inside the tower.
