The MohrmĂĽhlweiher, also known as the Motschweiher, is a natural pond near Waldmohr. Together with the Bruchwiesen meadows, trails starting at the market square and traces of local history, it offers several possible focuses for a stay: nature, outdoor activities or historical discoveries.

Nature and trails

The MohrmĂĽhlweiher is freely accessible year-round. As access conditions may change, check them on site before your trip. An educational fish trail by the pond offers insights into local wildlife and gives the nature theme a specific focus.

The Bruchwiesen meadows lie between the town center and the Mohrmühlweiher. About 10 hectares of the area have been returned to nature; the Bruchwiesen site also includes renaturation measures along the Glan. The Bruchwiesen are connected to the Glan-Blies Cycle Route. Check current conditions when planning your route. The market square is a starting point for walks, hikes and bike rides, and connects the Bruchwiesen and Dörrberg recreation areas.

Trails with different points of interest

For planning your outing, there are routes with different landmarks. A 6.1-kilometer route starts and ends at the market square in the town center. The easy Verladerampe circular trail runs for 6.4 kilometers through Waldmohr and is described as taking about 1 hour 40 minutes, with 67 meters of ascent and descent. This trail emphasizes its circular route, duration and elevation gain; for the 6.1-kilometer route, the market square and endpoint serve as landmarks.

The Bergmannsbauernweg also has its own character: it is described as a history book you can walk through. The Verladerampe circular trail offers a different kind of exploration and introduces Waldmohr’s mining and wartime history. The listed remains include part of a Westwall anti-tank barrier, a filled-in mine tunnel, imprints of Carboniferous fossils, as well as the former Nordfeld mine tunnel and loading station. When choosing a route, you can therefore opt for one with specific time and elevation details or for trails whose special appeal lies in their historical stories.

Fishing and local history

The Fishing Museum displays fish specimens, photographs, paintings and drawings, as well as historical fishing equipment and tackle. Visits are possible by appointment; arrange your visit before you arrive. This makes it possible to plan a museum visit deliberately, rather than assuming it is an attraction you can visit at any time.

Another unusual historical relic is housed in the community center: a former prison cell measuring nine square meters has been preserved there. Waldmohr was first mentioned in a document in 830 as the royal estate “Mörahha.” This early reference and the surviving traces of fishing and mining provide tangible points of connection to the town’s history—from its early name to visible relics.

The weekly market also offers a glimpse of local produce. The selection includes varieties of honey and honey products from Bernd Baumgärtner’s beekeeping business. Vendors and products may change; if those particular honey products are important to you, check their current availability.

Getting here and planning your stay

For travel by car, Waldmohr has a connection to the A6, which links the town to the wider German and European road network. The B423 runs through Waldmohr and provides regional connections across Saarland and the Palatinate. Check current traffic conditions before setting out.

When looking for accommodation, it helps to first decide what you want to focus on during your trip: would you like to spend most of your time on trails and in nature, are you particularly interested in local history, or would you like to combine both? The routes mentioned differ in their landmarks and the information provided; visits to the Fishing Museum are possible by appointment.
