Discover Göcklingen
Accommodation in Göcklingen
Göcklingen is a wine village whose local offerings make it possible to enjoy food and wine, active pursuits and cultural activities. When looking for accommodation, it may help to consider whether wine, dining, hiking or village culture will shape your stay.
Hiking around Göcklingen
Local hiking options include trails through the Kaiserbach Valley, a visit to the Alte Tongrube biotope pond, and a route along the renaturalized Krottenbach towards Eschbach. Trail conditions may change, so check them before setting out.
Wine and village culture
Local offerings include wineries, wine taverns, restaurants and the Göcklinger Hausbräu brewery. Wineries and tasting rooms welcome guests almost daily. Before visiting, check which wineries are participating and whether the tasting rooms are open. Alongside wine, dining and brewing culture are also local highlights.
Cultural experiences include a historical village tour, a wine festival in June and a Kerwe fair in August. If you would like to plan your trip around an event, check the dates and participating venues in advance.
In the wider destination of the Southern Wine Route
The Southern Wine Route borders the Palatinate Forest Biosphere Reserve and Nature Park. Landeck Castle has a 25-metre-high platform with views across the Vorderpfalz towards the Odenwald and Black Forest; visibility depends on the weather. Replicas of the Imperial Regalia are on display at Trifels Imperial Castle. Madenburg Castle in Leinsweiler has a permanent exhibition on its history.
The trails also differ considerably in length, format and theme. The TrifelsErlebnisWeg is 3.6 kilometres long, easy, and has 18 play and information stations. The Keschde-Erlebnisweg is a 6.1-kilometre circular trail around Föhrlenberg, suitable for pushchairs, and focuses on the Palatinate sweet chestnut. The first trail centres on its stations, while the second focuses on sweet chestnuts and the circular route. Some digital content on the TrifelsErlebnisWeg may change; seasonal conditions may affect use of the Keschde-Erlebnisweg.
At Silzer See, the climate and nature trail comprises two circular routes of different lengths covering forests, biodiversity, drinking water production and water retention. The monastery circular trail at Eußerthal Monastery Church provides information about the history of the former Cistercian monastery. The Museum unterm Trifels in Annweiler am Trifels explores the history of the town and Trifels Castle, the Hohenstaufen dynasty, and the development of the landscape in the Palatinate Forest. The nature trails therefore sit alongside topics in the history of the town, castle and monastery.
The paper museum in Gleisweiler offers a hands-on activity: visitors can make their own paper on opening days or by appointment. Check the current opening days before your trip or arrange your visit in advance.
