Discover Braunsbedra
Accommodation in Braunsbedra
Braunsbedra offers a range of discoveries: the habitats around Lake Geiseltal, routes for cycling and nature experiences, as well as traces of mining history and cultural venues. The landscape reveals different sides. After the open-cast mines closed, four lakes emerged in Braunsbedra’s landscape through reclamation and renaturation. Around Lake Geiseltal, habitats range from swampy to very dry and from wooded to sandy areas. This lets you include nature, outdoor activities and local history in your trip, each with a different focus.
Lakeside scenery and routes
The former mining lakes around Braunsbedra are served by well-developed cycling paths. A day trip by bike takes you around the entire Lake Geiseltal. In the Lake Geiseltal area, a cycling path also crosses a peninsula through a nature reserve, where visitors can observe rare animals. The cycling paths therefore offer different ways to explore the landscape: on a circular route or along a path that passes through a protected area.
On the opposite side of the lake from Braunsbedra are the Mühlenwanderweg trail and nature paths. You can set off in either direction from the Braunsbedra visitor centre. When planning your activities, these different starting points can help you choose between a longer bike ride, nature trails and other destinations by the lake.
Boat trips and other excursions
The MS Geiseltalsee passenger boat departs from Braunsbedra Marina on two routes. The Geiseltalexpress is a trackless narrow-gauge railway that circles the shoreline of Lake Geiseltal from Pfännerhall. Together with the day-long cycle tour around the entire lake, these offer different ways to travel: two routes by boat, a trip around the shoreline on the Geiseltalexpress, or a circular bike tour. If a trip is to be a set part of your day’s plans, check the latest departure times in advance.
Exhibitions and local memorials
Pfännerhall features the exhibition “Fundort Pfännerhall / Diorama Waldelefant” and an exhibition about the transoceanic ABORA expedition. As institutional exhibitions may change, check the current programme if a particular topic is important to your plans. The Pfännerhall engine hall is also a sight in Braunsbedra.
At Hauptstraße 19, a memorial stone and façade art commemorate Michael Kaßler. The palace, palace park and palace pond are other sights in Braunsbedra. Each place offers its own focus: exhibitions take centre stage at Pfännerhall, while the memorials and palace sights offer further insights into local culture.
Getting oriented and choosing accommodation
At the lakeside pier, the Braunsbedra Tourist Information Office provides information about Braunsbedra, Lake Geiseltal, events and excursions. This can help with planning the rest of your day when choosing between nature experiences, boat trips and cultural venues.
The wider travel destination of Saalekreis also offers its own cultural highlights. Querfurt Castle is one of the best-preserved castle complexes in Europe and the largest castle complex in Central Germany. In Bad Lauchstädt, the Douche Pavilion, opened in 1778 and restored in 2016, can be visited as a museum dedicated to the history of the mineral spa.
When looking for a place to stay, you can first decide which experiences you want to shape your visit: cycling routes and scenery, a boat trip, or exhibitions and sights. This way, you can choose a base that suits your interests and plans for each day.
