Hundshübel: Local History and Reservoir Trails
Accommodation in Hundshübel
Hundshübel combines local history from the Ore Mountains with experiences around the Eibenstock Reservoir. A stay might revolve around a historic house or an unusual museum collection; outdoors, options range from an easy circular trail to views from the Viechzig. This lets you choose where to stay based on your interest in culture, hiking or cycling.
Local history with distinct themes
The Nadlerhaus is one of the oldest buildings in Hundshübel; this Ore Mountain day-labourer’s house was built around 1750 and has been largely preserved in its original condition. The local history room offers insights into life here in the past. Guided tours with information about the building’s history can be arranged by prior request.
The Mühle Collection in Hundshübel is a razor museum with around 2,000 exhibits relating to 200 years of shaving culture. The collection is displayed in a historic 1930s salon. Visits are available on request, including for tour groups. The salon gives the collection its own historical setting.
The two visits also offer different historical perspectives: the Nadlerhaus was built around 1750, while the Mühle Collection is displayed in a 1930s salon. A building from the 18th century and a historic interior from the 20th century thus stand side by side as distinct points of reference.
The church in Hundshübel also has a history spanning more than 200 years. Together, the Nadlerhaus and the Mühle Collection offer a range of historical themes: the history of buildings and everyday life, shaving culture and church history.
Trails and views by the reservoir
From the Viechzig, the highest point in Hundshübel, you can enjoy views across the Eibenstock Reservoir to the ridge of the Ore Mountains and the Auersberg.
The Hundshübel Forest Nature Trail runs right beside the Eibenstock Reservoir in the Ore Mountains/Vogtland Nature Park. It is 2.12 kilometres long and designated as an easy circular trail. Its clearly stated distance and easy rating help you fit the walk into your day’s plans.
The “At the Eibenstock Reservoir / Marienweg” trail begins and ends at the Hundshübel forebay. Along the Marienweg, 15 information boards tell visitors about the region’s past and the landscape before the Eibenstock Reservoir was built. The Marienweg includes a section where you can walk onto the dam; there is also a Kneipp facility along the route.
A panoramic hike around the Eibenstock Reservoir takes a detour to the Viechzig picnic area in Hundshübel. The circular route around the reservoir is also used for cycling.
Plan your stay around your interests
The trails offer clear options for planning your day: the Forest Nature Trail is an easy circular walk, the Marienweg has a historical focus with its 15 information boards, and the route around the reservoir is also used by cyclists. When looking for accommodation in Hundshübel, consider whether local history, hiking or cycling will shape your stay.
