At the entrance roundabout in Brodersdorf stands the Probstei Gate, a reconstruction based on a historical model that recalls Brodersdorf’s traditional name, “Gateway to the Probstei.” Straw figures made for the Probstei Grain Days are also displayed there. A different focus awaits you on the Tree Trail: 60 different tree species take centre stage here.

Trees, orchard and circular trail

Information boards along the Tree Trail explain the tree species, the structure of flowers, and how wood and seeds are used. Other boards cover beekeeping and insect pollination in agriculture. A circular trail about four kilometres long runs through Brodersdorf’s fields and into the small wood called “Gruppen,” near the Hagener Au. You can choose between a route themed around trees and pollination and a circuit through fields and woodland.

The Brodersdorf orchard contains several old fruit varieties and a wildflower meadow designed to support pollinators. Beehives stand alongside the orchard and circular trail; on sunny days, you can watch the bees there. The orchard and information boards thus complement the tree-related themes with flowers, pollination and beekeeping. Honey is available in Brodersdorf as a souvenir; local availability may vary.

Exploring by bike

There is a rest area in Brodersdorf on the cycle route from Laboe to Schönberg/Heikendorf. It has an e-bike charging station, bicycle racks, benches and a picnic table. Next to the rest area is a free car park, where cycling tours through the Probstei can begin or end in Brodersdorf. From Brodersdorf, you can also reach the beach and other communities in the Probstei by bike.

Buses connect Brodersdorf with Kiel and Laboe. Since 2023, you have been able to rent Sprottenflotte bicycles in the town centre. Check the latest bus timetables and bike hire status before your trip. You should also check parking availability and the facilities at the rest area before setting off.

Village life and family time

The Brodersdorf playground offers a low rope course, a climbing frame, a slide and a picnic area for family outings. As play equipment can change over time, it is a good idea to check the current facilities before your visit. Events such as a morning get-together with live music take place at the village pond. The programme may vary by season and year, so check the dates for your travel period.

Farm stays are another accommodation option: Brodersdorf offers private holiday apartments and guest rooms, as well as the opportunity to spend a holiday on a farm. The accommodation that suits your plans will depend on how you want to spend your days—for example, exploring the Tree Trail, walking the circular trail or going on a cycling trip. As availability can change, check the latest offers before travelling.
