Todendorf: Prehistory and Paths in the Green
Accommodation in Todendorf
Todendorf can be explored through two specific themes: prehistoric traces and an extensive network of paths. Prehistoric finds and megalithic tombs in the Rögen woodland are linked to the town’s history. Also nearby is Beimoor Forest, in the direction of Ahrensburg and Großhansdorf, which is considered suitable for walks and cycling tours all year round. This offers two distinct ways to experience the town: from a historical perspective and through an active stay outdoors.
Paths and Forest Through the Seasons
In addition to the extensive local network of paths, Beimoor Forest lies in the direction of Ahrensburg and Großhansdorf. The woodland is considered suitable for walks and cycling tours all year round. If you enjoy spending your days outdoors, you can treat the local paths and the adjoining forest as separate points of reference when planning. Check the individual paths and their access conditions locally so that your plans suit the specific route.
Townscape and Early History
Todendorf’s scattered settlement pattern has been preserved. Historically, this can be explained by hereditary leaseholders settling near their land. Alongside the prehistoric finds in the Rögen woodland, the settlement pattern also tells the story of the town: it reflects the relationship between the places where people lived and the land held by hereditary leaseholders. Those interested in Todendorf will therefore find both early traces in a named woodland and an explanation for the municipality’s distinctive spatial form.
Bus Connections for Planning
Bus services connect Todendorf with the district town of Bargteheide, Ahrensburg and Großhansdorf; onward connections to the Deutsche Bahn network are also available. Check routes and timetables before travelling, as they may change. This lets you plan your journey around the connections you need without assuming specific travel times during your stay.
Stormarn as a Wider Excursion Area
If you are planning beyond the town, you can also explore the wider destination of Stormarn, where cultural and nature-related themes come together. Ahrensburg Castle was completed in 1585 and has served continuously as a museum since 1955. In Reinfeld, the history of the Herrenteich dates back to the 12th century: Cistercian monks created it as an artificial reservoir on the Heilsau for fish farming.
In Reinfeld, two circular routes can also be distinguished by their length and layout. A 3.6-kilometre circular route goes around the lower Herrenteich. The “Around the Herrenteich” nature trail is four kilometres long and has 16 stops directly along the edge of the “Oberer Herrenteich” nature reserve. The Herrenteich also has a lakeside promenade with two waterside terraces and additional seating areas. The route lengths and stops provide practical guidance when choosing between a loop around the lower pond and a nature trail along the edge of the protected area.
For cycling tours, Stormarn offers more than 20 circular cycling routes as well as BahnRadWege (railway cycle paths) along disused railway lines. The BahnRadWege follow the routes of three former railway lines through Stormarn’s landscapes. The “Post Train Robbery on the State Railway Line” crime trail offers another way to combine exercise and puzzles: on BahnRadWeg B, it pairs a cycling tour with a fictional investigation into a historical post train robbery.
