Discover Bocka
Accommodation in Bocka
Discover Bocka through several specific interests: the architectural history of the church in the district of Großbocka, routes to Münchenbernsdorf, a choice of paths at the rest area “Im Wiesengrund Bocka,” and Hohe Reuth on the B2. The church and organ offer a glimpse into cultural history, the routes provide an option for planning a day out, and Hohe Reuth has been a destination for excursions since 1827. You can tailor your stay to your interests: are you mainly interested in history, a hike or a place to visit?
Church and Baroque Organ in Großbocka
The church in Großbocka was built between 1753 and 1756. At concerts, you can listen to the sound of the Baroque organ. The building’s history and its music offer two different points of interest for a visit: the construction period places the church in its historical context, while concerts let you experience the instrument’s sound. If you are planning to attend a concert, check the dates in advance.
Hiking Trails and Rest Area
Hiking trails and an imaginatively designed nature trail lead to Münchenbernsdorf. This gives you a specific destination for an outing on foot. The nature trail offers a different focus from the hiking trails mentioned in general: when planning, you can also decide whether the route itself should be part of the experience.
Another waypoint is the small rest area with the bench “Im Wiesengrund Bocka.” From there, you can choose between the meadow path and the forest path to Schöna. Here, the rest area and choice of route go together: first you choose a direction, then the bench provides a named place to take a break. Both paths lead to Schöna, while the hiking trails and nature trail lead to Münchenbernsdorf—so the destinations and route options mentioned are easy to distinguish.
Destination for an Excursion and Getting There
Hohe Reuth on the B2 has also been a destination for excursions since 1827. For bus travel, the Gera–Schleiz route and the Kleinbocka stop are listed. Check the current timetable before you travel.
Culture in the Wider Destination of Greiz
A dedicated cultural focus in the wider destination of Greiz complements Bocka’s themes. Since 2010, the Upper Castle in Greiz has housed the permanent exhibition “From the Land of the Vogts to the Principality of Reuss Elder Line.” It covers the history of the Vogts, lords, imperial counts and imperial princes of Reuss, as well as the associated culture of small-state residences. The museum offers a multimedia experience of history, including a computer-animated account of the building’s history and an interactive journey through time.
The Lower Castle in Greiz houses a museum and a textile demonstration workshop. Established in 1998, the workshop presents the production and history of the Greiz textile industry; children and adults can take part in the manual production process. The Summer Palace in Greiz was built as a summer residence for the princes of the Elder Line of Reuss and is one of the earliest Neoclassical buildings in Central Germany. Greiz Park lies at the foot of the wooded castle hill. As a 19th-century landscape park, its overall grounds are designated a national cultural monument. The exhibition, crafts, architecture and park thus cater to different cultural interests in the wider destination of Greiz.
