Jettingen combines sweeping views with a distinctive cycling route and stories from different eras. Alongside the panoramic cycling loop, the old water tower, the castle in Sindlingen and historical traces in the forest shape the character of the town.

Cycling: a loop with 16 viewpoints

The Jettingen panoramic cycling loop is a circular route of about 25 kilometres, with a measured route length of 24.25 kilometres. In total, it passes 16 viewpoints. Information boards explain the panorama at each one. The viewpoints and their boards give the route a clear focus on the landscapes you can discover along the way.

Starting points and navigation

Official starting points for the panoramic cycling loop are at the municipal centre, Oberjettingen cemetery, the FCU sports clubhouse in Unterjettingen and, in Sindlingen, by the inn. You can practically start the loop anywhere; the locations listed nevertheless give you specific points to orient yourself. If you choose an official starting point, check the relevant information before setting off. There is also a barbecue area at the edge of the forest by the sports field.

Water tower, castle and local history

The old Jettingen water tower is at an elevation of 626 metres. It is described as the highest point in the Böblingen district and the town of Nagold, which meet there. From here, the view stretches across the Black Forest hills; on clear days, you can see as far as the Hornisgrinde and the Feldberg.

The castle in Sindlingen was the widow’s residence of Franziska von Hohenheim, first mistress and later second wife of Duke Karl Eugen of Württemberg. Another story is associated with the wooden memorial “Beim Arm”: it stands on the panoramic cycling loop about six kilometres past Oberjettingen cemetery. According to tradition, a herbalist was murdered there on her way home about 160 years ago; her hand protruding from the ground is said to have brought the crime to light.

Historical traces can also be found in the forest. The remains of the ramparts of a Celtic square enclosure, about 2,000 years old, lie directly to the left behind the shooting club. The site was probably built as a place of worship. The old Jettingen water tower, in turn, is associated with a narrow belt of the original Heckengäu landscape, little of which remains visible elsewhere.
