Discover Rohrdorf: Circular Routes and Local History
Accommodation in Rohrdorf
Rohrdorf can be explored through two distinct themes: circular routes through the countryside and local history with medieval landmarks. The three designated routes each have their own character; historical dates and buildings offer another perspective on your stay. You can plan your trip around what interests you most about the area.
Circular Routes Through Different Landscapes
Rohrdorf has three designated circular routes: the Bergwald Circular Route, the Staufen Circular Route, and the Malmen Circular Route. All three start within the municipality, are loop routes, and are suitable for locals and visitors alike. When choosing between them, the character of each landscape is therefore more relevant than the type of route.
The Bergwald Circular Route is about 4.5 kilometers long. It passes through forested and higher-altitude areas and includes nature-focused sections and views across the surrounding countryside. Its approximate length and combination of forest, higher-altitude sections, and views give this route a clear focus on nature.
The Staufen Circular Route features a varied landscape of forest, meadows, and areas on the edge of the village. This mix offers a different experience from the forested and higher-altitude sections of the Bergwald Circular Route.
The Malmen Circular Route is suitable for a walk or a short hike and combines quiet paths with sections close to the village. The routes therefore offer different features for direct comparison: the Bergwald route is described in terms of its length and views, the Staufen route for its varied landscape, and the Malmen route for quiet paths close to the village.
Rohrdorf’s History in Dates and Buildings
Rohrdorf was first mentioned in a document on December 18, 1285. The newly built St. John’s Church was consecrated on April 25, 1311. The Alte Kommende was built in 1430 on the site of the former castle and adjoined the church directly; the chaplaincy was built in 1595 in the Renaissance style.
These dates give local history a long timeline: the first documentary mention is followed by the church’s consecration and later construction dates. The two buildings have distinct characteristics: the Alte Kommende is associated with the former castle site and its direct connection to the church, while the chaplaincy is notable for its Renaissance style. Those interested in culture and architecture will find another way to explore Rohrdorf alongside its circular routes.
The three circular routes and historical landmarks provide concrete points of reference and help you find the kind of trip you want.
