Uhingen combines the landscape of the Filstal valley with the gentle hills of the Voralb region. There are also views of the Schurwald and trails that offer different ways to experience nature and industrial heritage. Filstal, Voralb and Schurwald

The hilly landscape around Uhingen invites you to hike, cycle, explore and enjoy the scenery. From the Uhingen viewpoint, you can look out over the town and the Schurwald. This gives you two different options: take in the views or follow a route that takes you through the landscape over a longer distance.

The Eastern Schurwald Route runs along Kaisersträßle over the Schurwald ridge. It is around 50 kilometres long, can be cycled in either direction and is suitable for families. The start and finish are at Uhingen railway station. The distance, choice of direction and start and finish point provide a clear framework for planning your day.

Industrial Heritage and Uhingen’s Local History

The Filstal Industrial Heritage Route is one of Uhingen’s attractions. It crosses fields on its way to Uhingen, where it runs alongside the railway and the Allgaier Werke company premises. At the entrance to the town, it reaches the town centre and Gerber Park. Mühle Röhm and BEMO model railways are a little further away. This gives the route a different focus from the Schurwald Route: here, named stops in the town shape the outing. Check the current route before setting out.

Confiserie Bosch is also associated with a local speciality: it is known for producing Wibele biscuits. Managing director Mr Hellstern leads guided tours about the confectionery’s history and its glass-fronted production area. If you are planning a tour, check the dates and group conditions in advance.

A dated glimpse into Uhingen’s local history takes us back to May 1911. At the time, 27-year-old Adolf Bosch senior opened a confectionery with a café and colonial goods shop right next to the railway station and post office.

More options in the wider Göppingen travel area

The wider Göppingen travel area offers further cultural and landscape attractions. The Märklineum in Göppingen presents Märklin’s more than 165-year history and its products. The Hohenstaufen offers a different experience: from here, you can enjoy panoramic views across the Göppingen district; the mountain is considered the best-known of the Three Kaiser Mountains and a landmark of the Staufer region.

The differences between the active options can also help you choose. The Lion Trails in the Göppingen district are circular hiking routes ranging from 3 to 24 kilometres. They can be hiked in either direction and are signposted and marked in both directions. Information boards at the starting points provide details about the route, elevation profile and sights along the way. The Lion Trails for mountain biking are quite different: the four circular routes are between 16 and 30 kilometres long and are particularly suitable for beginners and e-mountain bikers.

For a longer cycling route, consider the 186-kilometre Albtäler route. It runs through the Göppingen district and the neighbouring districts of Heidenheim and Alb-Donau-Kreis, and is a quality cycling route awarded four stars by the ADFC. Another family-friendly way to explore a regional landscape is the 35-kilometre Obstroute through the orchard landscape.
