Klippeneck gives Denkingen a distinctive landscape landmark. The plateau, escarpment and several named hiking trails define this part of the municipality. There are also historic sites at Klippeneck and a striking fountain on the main road through the village. Visitors planning a trip can get to know Denkingen through its landscape, trails and the history of individual places.

Plateau and Hiking Trails at Klippeneck

The Klippeneck plateau lies on the edge of the Swabian Alb between Tuttlingen and Rottweil, within the municipality of Denkingen. It drops steeply to the valley on the western side. The plateau and escarpment form two distinct aspects of the same landscape: trails cross Klippeneck above, while the steep slope marks its western edge.

The Donauberglandweg, the Albsteig Schwäbische Alb, the Donauwellen Premium Trail Klippeneck-Steig and other local circular hiking trails maintained by the municipality of Denkingen pass Klippeneck. A specific shared route is mentioned for HW 1 and HW 3: there, HW 3 follows HW 1 across Klippeneck and continues towards Dreifaltigkeitsberg. This distinction is useful when planning a hike: several trails pass Klippeneck, while an additional shared continuation towards Dreifaltigkeitsberg is described for HW 1 and HW 3. Check the latest route information before setting out.

Rest Stops and Points of Orientation

The Kreuzsteige rest and barbecue area is located on the heights of Klippeneck in Denkingen, along the main hiking trails HW 1 and HW 3. It was originally established by the municipality of Denkingen. In 2017, the Denkingen branch of the Swabian Alb Association built the “Kreuzsteighütte” shelter at Kreuzsteige. A wave lounger was added at the escarpment in 2019, offering an impressive view.

The panoramic information board has its own location: the municipality of Denkingen installed it in 2010 with funding on the Klippeneck plateau, near the hiking car park and at the starting point of many hiking trails. Klippeneck therefore has various landmarks and facilities associated with hiking. Their locations differ, however: Kreuzsteige, the escarpment and the area by the hiking car park are each separate points of reference for planning.

Local History Between the Escarpment and the Main Road

In 2018, the municipality of Denkingen had the GEO monument erected at the escarpment by the Klippeneck hiking car park. The occasion was the municipality’s 1,200th anniversary. The Albverein fountain stands on the main road through the village: it was installed in 1996 with support from the municipality and the company SchwerPräzision. The two places link Denkingen to different spatial impressions—the elevated area of Klippeneck and the main road through the village.
