Accommodation in Frittlingen
Frittlingen combines active pursuits with traditional customs celebrated year after year: cycling routes cover the entire municipal area, four selected circular hiking trails range from easy beginner routes to challenging hikes, and Fasnacht features several events. You can tailor your stay around outdoor activities, tradition or a mix of both.
Cycling and hiking in Frittlingen
Cycling routes cover the entire municipal area of Frittlingen. For hiking, there are four selected circular trails to choose from. They range in difficulty from easy beginner routes to challenging hikes, making it easy to take your preferred level of challenge into account when planning. All local hiking trails also connect well with quality hiking trails. If you want to focus on a particular route, you can also consider how the local trail network connects with quality hiking trails. Check current trail conditions before setting out on a specific tour.
Fasnacht celebrations over several days
Frittlingen’s recurring Fasnacht traditions span several days. On Schmotziger, they include the children’s parade and the removal of the mayor from office; on Friday, the carnival newspaper “Rätscha” is sold. The Colorful Evening takes place in the festival hall on Fasnacht Saturday. Parades are held on Fasnacht Sunday and Fasnacht Tuesday. If you’re travelling for Fasnacht, you can plan your stay around the event you want to attend. The tradition you want to experience can therefore shape the focus of your trip.
Landscapes and trails in the wider Tuttlingen travel destination
The wider Tuttlingen travel destination extends beyond Frittlingen. The district of Tuttlingen covers a total area of 734.4 square kilometres and includes the southwestern foothills of the Swabian Alb, parts of the Baar region and the valley of the Young Danube. The northern part of the district is home to juniper heaths and the “10-Tausender” region, with ten mountains over 1,000 metres high. Other scenic highlights in the district include the Danube gorge and the Höwenegg volcanic crater; white limestone cliffs rise above the Danube valley.
There is also a regional difference when it comes to cycling: unlike Frittlingen’s local network, Mühlheim an der Donau lies directly on the International Danube Cycle Path. The route continues all the way to the Danube’s mouth at the Black Sea and can also be ridden in short stages. Another point of reference for hikers is the “Donauversinkung” premium hiking trail, which runs between Tuttlingen-Möhringen and Immendingen. Check current trail conditions before setting out.
The Danube Sinkhole is a natural phenomenon that can look different every day between Immendingen, Möhringen, Tuttlingen and Fridingen. In some places, the Danube may carry a lot of water, be completely dry or carry only a little water. Its appearance is therefore not the same every day. In October 2022, the Mühlheim Rock Cave became the first cave in the Swabian Alb to be designated a Geopoint by the UNESCO Global Geopark Swabian Alb.
For climbers, the seasonal dates at Rabenfels in the Bära Valley are particularly important: the climbing areas between the “Mister Wendl” and “Gebrüderweg” routes are open from 1 August to 31 December. Check current regulations before climbing. Arena Geisingen offers a 30,000-square-metre outdoor area with a street course, beer garden, slacklining, a beach volleyball court and other facilities. As access arrangements may vary, check the operator’s latest information before visiting.
Cultural discoveries in the district
The Neuhausen ob Eck Open-Air Museum features 25 historic buildings that were dismantled at their original locations, moved to the museum and restored to their original condition. The Museum of the Upper Danube Valley in Ifflinger Castle hosts changing special exhibitions as well as permanent exhibitions on the town’s history and local rule, archaeology, Fasnacht and more recent history. Another cultural highlight is the annual Tuttlingen Honberg Summer festival, held at Honberg Castle ruins and attracting tens of thousands of visitors each year.
Choose accommodation based on the reason for your trip
When looking for accommodation, start by deciding what you want to focus on during your stay: cycling and hiking routes in Frittlingen, Fasnacht traditions, or nature and culture in the wider Tuttlingen travel destination? If you’re planning a specific activity, such as climbing at Rabenfels during its seasonal opening period, factor the dates and current regulations into your plans.
