Bischbrunn: Trails, Panoramic Views and History
Accommodation in Bischbrunn
Bischbrunn lies in the Spessart Nature Park and combines hiking trails, natural landscapes and traces of history. A Planet Trail and a 12 km cultural hiking trail explore different themes; there is also a viewpoint above the village, as well as Torhaus Aurora and Rainstor, reminders of earlier uses of the landscape.
Hiking trails with different themes
The Bischbrunn Cultural Hiking Trail is a 12 km circular route that starts at the hiking lodge in Bischbrunn. The Planet Trail runs through the village areas of Bischbrunn and Esselbach. You can explore it independently on foot, by bicycle or by Segway. From May to September, guided tours are also available when weather conditions are suitable; check the tour information before your visit.
The Planet Trail uses a scale of 1:959,032: at this scale, the distance to Pluto is about 6.2 km. This illustrates an astronomical scale in concrete terms. The two trails thus offer different thematic highlights for your time in Bischbrunn.
Landscape, views and plant life
The viewpoint above Bischbrunn offers views from Schweinfurt to the Steigerwald. On a clear day, you may also be able to see the Frankenwarte near Würzburg. The Geiersberg is within the municipality; at 586 m, it is considered the highest peak in the Spessart.
The Weihersgrund nature reserve lies about 4 km north of Bischbrunn, along the upper reaches of the Heinrichsbach. It provides habitats for endangered Bavarian plant species, including arnica, broad-leaved marsh orchid, creeping willow and marsh cudweed. The reserve’s plant life complements the wide-ranging views with a botanical focus.
Historical traces
Torhaus Aurora formerly served both as an entrance to the wildlife enclosure and as a customs post on the border with Mainz. A section of the historic wildlife-park fence has been reconstructed at Rainstor. These reminders of the past add traces of former border and wildlife-enclosure use to the hiking and nature themes.
