Dorfprozelten on Vineyard and Forest Trails

In Dorfprozelten, several hiking trails lead through very different landscapes and to a variety of destinations. The Vineyard Circular Trail starts at the car park by the Alte Obstplantage (Old Orchard). It leads to a rest area with benches at the upper end of the vineyard, then continues through the vineyard back to the starting point. The rest area is a specific stop along the circular trail before you return to the start.

The red deer enclosure is located above the vineyard at the edge of the forest and can be visited year-round. It is a good idea to check local information before your visit. For another circular route, the Bichelberg Circular Trail also starts at the car park by the Alte Obstplantage. From there, it descends through orchards to the European Cultural Route “Altenbücher Kirchweg,” passes the memorial stone into the Sellgrund valley, and returns through the forest towards Dorfprozelten.

The slightly longer Eiserner Pol Trail starts at the car park by the Main. It follows quiet forest paths and steep climbs to the “Eiserner Pol.” Along the way, there are views across the vineyards to the Main Valley. You can choose between different experiences: the vineyard with its rest area, orchards and the Sellgrund valley, or forest paths with steep climbs and views across the Main Valley. Check local route information before setting out.

The Kollenburg Chapel Trail also starts and ends at the hiking car park by the Main. From the Steingasse signpost, it follows the Marienweg and passes the Heimatblick viewpoint to the ruins of Kollenburg, then continues via a shelter to Dorfprozelten’s War Memorial Chapel. The ruins, viewpoint and chapel offer a different sequence of named stops from the circular trails through the vineyard or forest.

Local History and Regional Culture

Dorfprozelten’s local history museum is housed in the former railway station building. Changing exhibitions showcase the history of the community and the life’s work of earlier generations. The name “Dornbuschschmiede” also has a historical connection to the town: in Dorfprozelten, the name is commonly associated with the last blacksmith, August Dornbusch, who died in 1983.

The wider travel destination of Miltenberg has its own cultural and landscape attractions. The Stadt Museum presents the history of Miltenberg and the surrounding region in three historic half-timbered houses on the market square, the Schnatterloch. Miltenberg district lies between the Odenwald and Spessart ranges; its characteristic features include deeply incised river and stream valleys.

The Miltenberg district’s cultural weeks begin each year in mid-September and offer a varied programme for all ages. Events include concerts featuring classical and contemporary music, as well as jazz and electronic music. Exact event dates vary. Visitors to the district can also visit one of the many Häckerwirtschaften—seasonal wine taverns—or one of the wine festivals and enjoy regional wine; opening dates also vary from place to place.
