Stadtprozelten between Henneburg Castle and the Spessart Forest
Accommodation in Stadtprozelten
Henneburg Castle, trails through the Spessart Forest and the Main Cycle Route give Stadtprozelten a variety of attractions. Here, the castle and archery sit alongside mindfulness exercises in the forest and cycling trips along the river. When planning your trip, it is worth keeping your preferred focus and the appropriate times in mind.
Henneburg Castle: History and Archery Course
Henneburg Castle is located directly by an access road in Stadtprozelten; there are a few parking spaces at the castle. Check the local regulations before you travel. Guided tours in and around the castle can be booked from March to October. If you are planning a guided tour, ask the tourism office about available dates.
The building’s history also offers specific points of interest for your visit: the imposing keep is the oldest part of Henneburg Castle and dates from the 12th century. The eastern palas followed in the mid-13th century. The different construction periods give the complex a long history, which you can explore in greater detail on a guided castle tour.
The circular route of the Henneburg Archery Course starts at the practice range in the historic castle moat. From there, it leads through the Spessart Forest, across forest clearings and meadows, and through a mature beech forest and old-growth forest. Passing Echoberg, the route returns to Henneburg Castle. The course combines an archery round with changing forest and landscape scenery.
Experienced archery instructors from Stadtprozelten offer courses for individuals and groups. Interested visitors can try archery even without their own equipment. Confirm course availability with the provider in advance so you can reliably fit this activity into your stay.
Forest Trails with Different Themes
The Mindfulness Trail runs along the municipal boundary between Dorfprozelten and Stadtprozelten. Eight stations offer prompts and exercises for forest bathing and Qi Gong. This gives the trail a different focus from the archery course: here, the stations and their suggestions for spending time in the forest take centre stage.
The trail starts at the hiking car park between “Dreikreuz” and “Sellgrund”. Check the local signs when you arrive. Important for planning: the Mindfulness Trail is not suitable for wheelchair users or people with mobility impairments. Check the conditions before your visit.
In addition, extensive hiking trails around Stadtprozelten lead through the Spessart forests. These trails are suited to hikes through the Spessart forests; the archery course at Henneburg Castle and the Mindfulness Trail offer different themed experiences. Check local trail conditions before setting out.
Along the Main
The cycle route runs directly along the Main; from there, you can continue towards Wertheim or Miltenberg. The cycle paths along the Main are relatively easy-going, with no major climbs. Unlike the forest and castle trails, the focus here is on the Main and continuing your ride along the river.
There is a bicycle charging station at Stadtprozelten railway station, signposted within the town. If you plan to use it, check its current operating status in advance.
Townscape and Tradition
The Old Town Hall is a landmark in Stadtprozelten. It is right next to the town pharmacy and opposite the current administrative building. Built in 1520, it was extensively renovated in recent years and extended with an annex for additional functions. Its location makes the town hall a point of reference in the townscape and connects the historic building with the present-day use of its surroundings.
The traditional Schäfflertanz, performed every seven years, is also part of the town’s cultural profile. If you are interested, ask about the date of the next performance.
You can tailor your travel dates to the activities you actually want to include.
