Discover Neumarkt-Sankt Veit
Accommodation in Neumarkt-Sankt Veit
Neumarkt-Sankt Veit combines a historic town centre with routes through natural surroundings. The town square and former Benedictine monastery of St. Veit represent the town’s historic side; the Rott and the routes that pass through the town offer a different focus for your stay.
Town history and a monastery visible from afar
The size and layout of the town square date back to its founding by Duke Henry XIII of Landshut. The former Benedictine monastery of St. Veit, visible from afar, was dissolved in 1802, changed hands several times afterwards, and is now used mainly as a care home.
Routes along the Rott and through the town
The Rott flows from west to east through the municipal area of Neumarkt-Sankt Veit. The path along the river within the municipality is ideal for walking and cycling in natural surroundings. The river and the path can thus be seen as two related but distinct points of reference: the Rott shapes the geographical direction, while the path offers the above-mentioned ways to enjoy the outdoors.
For a shorter hike, consider the route to Steinernes Bründl. Neumarkt-Sankt Veit is also on the cross-border Wolfgangweg, which runs from Regensburg to St. Wolfgang in Austria. The “Schweppermann” tour also passes through the town. To choose a route, you can distinguish them by their focus: a shorter hike to Steinernes Bründl, a walk or bike ride along the Rott, or tours that pass through the town.
Mühldorf Am Inn: Townscape and Culture
In Mühldorf Am Inn, the 500-metre-long town square is characterised by colourful façades in the Inn-Salzach architectural style. The Salzburg high fountain on the square was a gift from Salzburg Prince-Archbishop Johannes Ernst von Thun in 1692. At the entrance to the town square stands the Nagelschmiedturm, also known as the Münchener Tor; it is the oldest building in the town.
The two Mühldorf “Traidkästen”, Haberkasten and Kornkasten, were built as grain stores in the 15th century; the courtyard lies between them. Haberkasten was later converted into a cultural centre. Since 1999, the courtyard has hosted the summer festival every year during the first two weeks of July.
A short stroll through the old town of Mühldorf a. Inn is a circular walk that offers an introduction to the history and architectural beauty of the district town. At the Geschichtszentrum und Museum Mühldorf a. Inn, the permanent exhibition “Everyday Life, Armaments, Extermination” presents the history of the district of Mühldorf during the Nazi era. The exhibition “Lifeline Inn” shows how people have lived with the river and how it is used today.
The Innaue nature trail in Mühldorf Am Inn features 11 interactive stations and connects the town of Mühldorf a. Inn with the recreational area south of the Inn. It is a circular route, educational trail and walking path, suitable for pushchairs and family-friendly.
