Munich Airport offers more than views of planes taking off and landing: viewpoints, a cycling loop, a behind-the-scenes tour and brewing culture each offer something different. You can tailor your visit to what interests you most—from watching air traffic to cycling and visiting Airbräu.

Views of aircraft and the apron

The 28-metre-high Visitors’ Hill offers views of the runways, aircraft taking off and landing, and activity on the apron. The observation terrace also overlooks the apron and runways; from there, you can also see the satellite building. If you’re especially interested in watching aircraft movements, Visitors’ Hill is an obvious choice. The terrace adds another viewpoint. Both places give your airport visit a focus of its own, without limiting what you see to aircraft in the air.

Cycling around the airport

The Environmental Cycle Route is a loop of approximately 19 kilometres. It runs along Nordallee, the aprons and the southern runway, mostly on gravel and paved roads. The approximately 19-kilometre loop therefore connects different sections of the airport infrastructure. At various stops, signs with QR codes link to background information on the airport website, so you can also combine the route with learning about topics related to the airport.

The landscape also includes the meadows around the runways. They are part of the “Northern Erdinger Moos” European bird protection area. For cyclists considering another named route beyond the loop, the “Ring der Regionen” passes through the airport and Oberding before returning to Erding.

A closer look at airport operations

The Airport Live Tour takes you behind the scenes of airport operations and offers a close-up look at large aircraft and activity on the apron. It lasts about 60 minutes, in addition to the security check. This makes it possible to plan for the tour differently from the Environmental Cycle Route, for which an approximate distance is given. As the tour offering and operational details may change, check the latest tour information before your visit.

Visitors’ Park and more to see

Visitors’ Park is accessible via the “Besucherpark” stop on S-Bahn lines S1 and S8. The themed playground there includes a large “Tower Slide.” There is also a newly redesigned 18-hole facility that combines fun with forward-looking ideas. Together, these offerings add more leisure activities to the airport experience, alongside the views and tour.

Airbräu: beer and brewery tour

Since 1999, Airbräu has brewed beer right at Munich Airport in accordance with the German Beer Purity Law. The Airbräu restaurant serves Bavarian specialities and freshly brewed beer in a traditional pub atmosphere. On the brewery tour, you’ll find out how beer is brewed using four ingredients; the tour takes you from the copper brewing kettles to the cellars where the beer is stored. The restaurant and tour offer different experiences: the focus here is on Bavarian food and beer, and there on the brewing process and its stages.

Use experiences to guide your accommodation search

When looking for accommodation in Munich Airport, you can start by considering which experiences you want to shape your stay: views, cycling, a look behind the scenes or brewing culture. Two details help distinguish different planning considerations: the Airport Live Tour takes about 60 minutes, plus the security check, while the Environmental Cycle Route is a loop of approximately 19 kilometres.
