Pfaffing combines wooded surroundings with nature stations, cultural history and a programme of stage performances. The small river Attel and the Filzen, a moorland landscape, are nearby. Other attractions include the Pfaffing Nature Trail, the cultural route and the parish church of St. Catherine. This gives you a range of options when planning your trip: nature, a cultural route, architectural history or a programme of stage performances.

Woods, Moorland and Nature Trail

The Pfaffing Nature Trail features a total of 17 tree puzzles. At Station 2, you’ll find a tactile trail, a crocodile, an animal long-jump station, a listening nook and a tree nursery. Their names alone point to different ways of engaging with nature: the tactile trail and listening nook appeal to different senses, while the other features introduce further nature-themed activities.

Station 3 has a different character: a hut stands in a forest clearing, and a tree nursery explains annual rings. There is also a wooden xylophone and an insect hotel where you can observe wild bees. The installations may change over time, so check which features are currently available before your visit.

Cultural Route and Historic Sites

The cultural route offers a different focus. Designed as a cycling loop, it runs for around 28 km through the municipalities of Edling and Pfaffing, taking in culturally significant historic sites. The route length may vary slightly between listings. Weatherproof signs along the route provide information about nine monuments. The Stoa, a glacial erratic, is one of the cultural route’s nine stops.

The main difference between the two options is their focus: the cultural route is a cycling loop linking cultural sites, while the nature trail features tree puzzles and individual stations. You can choose whether to plan a route with a historical theme or a trail offering details about nature.

Church, Stage Programme and Golf

The parish church of St. Catherine in Pfaffing is a Baroque building erected in 1731/32 by Thomas Mayr, a master mason from Grafing. The lower part of the tower is still late Gothic. You can book church tours through the parish office. Since booking information may change, it’s best to check with the parish office in advance.

Kunst in der Filzen offers a programme of theatre, music and cabaret in Pfaffing. Specific dates vary, so if you’d like to include one of these events, check in advance whether the programme coincides with your travel dates. Another attraction is the 18-hole Pfaffing golf course at Neuhaus 132, which offers views of the Alpine panorama.

Culture in the Wider Rosenheim Destination

In the wider Rosenheim destination, Amerang offers more for culture enthusiasts. The Museum in Amerang Castle provides insights into castle architecture and the history of the noble family. The Amerang Farmhouse Museum, run by the District of Upper Bavaria, displays farmhouses, craft buildings and technical installations from the Chiemgau region. The Amerang Open-Air Museum offers individual tours and group activities. These visitor services may change; groups may need to make arrangements in advance. It’s helpful to enquire beforehand when planning your visit.

The moorland landscape is also the subject of its own trail: Established in 2010, the Moor Nature Trail between Amerang and Halfing explains how the landscape formed after the Ice Age and provides information about its native flora and fauna.
