Discover Eggenfelden
Accommodation in Eggenfelden
Eggenfelden brings tangible urban history together with market life, art and music. This gives you a variety of starting points for planning your trip: you can explore historic buildings, discover regional products at the weekly market or take an interest in culture around town. Which theme shapes your stay depends on whether you are more interested in local history, market activity or events.
Local history and art in Eggenfelden
Eggenfelden’s former market fortifications were built in 1345/65, were almost circular and had three gates. The Grabmeier Gate is the only one of these gates to have survived. It stands in front of Eggenfelden’s western outer market. Its name and the surviving gate structure provide a tangible reference point for the history of the fortifications: both their shape and the number of their gates have been passed down from the former structure.
Art throughout the town adds a different dimension. Eggenfelden is adorned with numerous fountains and sculptures by various artists. Together with the historic Grabmeier Gate, they offer different ways to experience the town: the history of a fortification on the one hand, and the artworks that shape Eggenfelden today on the other. This means the focus is not just on a single building, but also on the artistic design of the town.
Weekly market and music events
A weekly market with a wide range of regional products takes place in the town hall square every Tuesday and Friday. These two regular market days make planning easier if the market is of interest to you. Around public holidays, it is worth checking local market notices so you can plan for any changes. The market combines a visit to the town hall square with a range of products that puts regional produce centre stage.
Music is also part of Eggenfelden’s cultural life: numerous music events take place around town. If you would like to include music in your trip, plan around the specific event dates. Unlike the weekly market, which takes place on set days, there is no single date or fixed schedule for these events. When choosing your travel dates, the key is therefore to find an event that fits your plans.
More to explore in the wider Rottal-Inn destination
The wider Rottal-Inn destination offers other distinct themes. Rottal Terme has more than 30 pleasantly warm thermal pools with temperatures ranging from 26 to 40 °C, as well as 13 different saunas and steam baths. The spa complex also includes a 105-metre-long thermal stream and health, prevention and wellness services. If you are planning to visit these facilities, check the latest information beforehand: figures and facilities may change as a result of renovations.
Rottal-Inn offers a different cultural highlight for theatre enthusiasts. Theater an der Rott is the only theatre in Germany owned by a district. Each year it presents premieres in drama, musicals, concerts, dance, operetta and opera. Productions change, so the current programme is the best guide when planning a specific visit. The wide range of genres makes the theatre a distinct option alongside the music events in Eggenfelden.
Gothic architecture, nature and rural culture
The “Gothic Tours” showcase selected Gothic monuments across the Rottal-Inn destination. Brochures, maps, the tour portal and the Gothic portal provide guidance. The Gothic portal supplements this information with audio guides to Gothic buildings that can be accessed on site, as well as an online museum featuring information, knowledge and learning resources. Visitors with a particular interest in architectural history will find a themed route here that goes beyond the individual historic gate in Eggenfelden, while keeping the different offerings distinct.
The wider Rottal-Inn destination also offers different options for planning nature outings and tours. The Inn Cycle Path runs through the Lower Inn European Reserve and offers a wealth of insight into local flora and fauna in the Rottal-Inn leisure region. The region also has a well-developed, extensive network of trails spanning several hundred kilometres for hikers and cyclists. The tour portal supports individual route planning with elevation profiles, information on trail conditions and GPX downloads. This lets you choose between experiencing nature along the Inn and planning your own hiking or cycling tour.
The Rottaler Farm Tour offers a rural focus. Its experience programme revolves around country life and everyday work, wildlife and farming culture, traditional crafts and handicraft techniques, as well as regional “specialities”. This offers a different perspective from Eggenfelden’s town fortifications, public art and weekly market: rather than urban history, it focuses on everyday life, crafts and regional cuisine. When choosing accommodation, it may therefore be helpful to first decide which of these themes will be the deciding factor for your trip.
