This walk brings together religious buildings and sweeping views across lakes and mountains.

Traunstein: nature and culture in the wider destination
The wider destination of Traunstein offers a broader view of the region. Chiemsee and Lake Waginger are in Traunstein district; the Chiemgau Alps have more than 170 alpine pastures and peaks up to 2,000 metres high. The Waginger and Tachinger Lakes area is among its landscape conservation areas, while the Seeon Lakes are nature reserves. Protected areas help preserve biodiversity, safeguard rare habitats and protect the natural and cultural landscape.
Traunstein itself offers a distinct cultural focus. The historic city walk passes the Cultural Forum at the Monastery Church and continues to the Saline Chapel, the saltworks houses and the Salinenpark, established in 2019. The surviving saltworks houses and the Saline Chapel offer insight into Traunstein’s important salt history; the Saline Chapel is Germany’s largest chapel. The local history museum houses a town and toy museum with exhibits on civic culture, religious art and the history of the saltworks. The brewery museum near Jackl Tower is part of Hofbräuhaus Traunstein.
