Rutesheim is located on a plateau between the Glems, WĂĽrm and Strudelbach valleys. The municipal forest, opportunities for outdoor activities and a church of historical interest give the town several distinct facets: you can focus your stay on nature and being active, or take time to explore the town centre and its architectural history. Which accommodation suits your trip also depends on which of these interests you want to prioritise.

Municipal forest and trails for different plans

The 536-hectare municipal forest is suitable for walking and hiking as well as cycling. There are three signposted Nordic walking routes, measuring 2, 5 and 9 kilometres. The different distances help you gauge the length of the route you have planned. The forest fitness trail adds 20 stations, with a total of ten fitness machines, to the trail network.

The Rutesheim Boundary Trail offers a different way to explore the area: it runs all the way along Rutesheim’s boundary. The Nordic Walking Park routes are marked by distance in kilometres, while the Boundary Trail follows the town’s perimeter. This makes it easy to decide in advance whether one of the signposted distances or this distinctive route along the boundary is a better fit for your outing.

Leisure park with courses and other activities

The high-ropes course at Rutesheim Leisure Park is located near the Rutesheim exit, in a forest area covering more than 30,000 square metres. It features 20 courses, six introductory courses and more than 287 challenges. Its defining feature is the variety of courses and activities. The leisure park also has miniature golf, archery and an outdoor escape game. Each activity offers something different; check which of the activities you are interested in are available before your visit.

St. John’s Church and local history

The Protestant St. John’s Church is a cultural monument and was first mentioned in records of Hirsau Abbey in 1147. Its architecture also reflects its former function: you can still see that the church was originally built as a fortified church. For a stay focused on cultural history, it offers a specific historical reference point alongside a feature of the building that remains visible today.

Town centre, festivals and getting there

The renovated and redesigned town centre includes a market square, a library, cafés, restaurants, a hotel and specialist shops. Pedestrian zones and traffic-calmed streets and squares are also part of the area. Alongside the trails in the municipal forest, this gives you places and amenities to enjoy in the town centre.

The annual calendar traditionally includes the Fleckenfest in June and the Sauerkraut Festival in early October. If you want to plan your trip around one of these festivals, check the exact dates for your travel year. Rutesheim has its own stop on the Stuttgart–Weil der Stadt S-Bahn line (S 6), as well as direct access to the motorway. Current connections and conditions on the day of travel are key when planning your journey.
